Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in electrical engineering and design work for oil and gas and chemical facilities is preferred.
  • An Engineer-in-Training license is required.
  • Experience specifying low-voltage and medium-voltage transformers, switchgear, motor controls, and variable frequency drives.
  • Experience analyzing industrial power systems using SKM tools or equivalent modeling software is required.
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code and API standards, including requirements relevant to electrical installations in hazardous locations and hazardous-area classification.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, walk properties and laydown yards, and carry up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Engage in shop and field testing of switchgear and motor control center equipment.
  • Provide direction and coordinate electrical engineering for large industrial projects in midstream gas processing, petroleum refining, petrochemical, and upstream oil and gas industries.
  • Apply design knowledge in medium- and low-voltage power distribution, grounding, lighting, motor control, variable frequency drives, and miscellaneous equipment specification and selection.
  • Conduct power studies, including load flow, short circuit, relay coordination, motor starting, and arc flash studies, to define distribution-facility requirements in industrial plants.
  • Interact with engineering disciplines, engineering and construction project managers, major equipment suppliers, and clients.
  • Review and approve electrical design deliverables for issue for design and construction, including wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, electrical area-classification plans, power and control cable schedules, and other electrical project deliverables.
  • Develop scopes of work and prepare detailed design milestones, staffing schedules, and engineering man-hour estimates.
  • Notify supervision and project management of issues affecting scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Coordinate details and miscellaneous design details with other disciplines and the project manager.
  • Collaborate with the client's electrical representative to ensure appropriate communication and coordination for project deliverables.
  • Apply standard engineering design principles and research design options when necessary.
  • Manage one or more projects at a time and coordinate with other disciplines to complete projects.
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer license by examination is preferred but not required.
  • Substation experience.
