Requirements
  • A minimum university degree or community college diploma in accounting, finance or business.
  • A professional designation such as CPA (CA, CGA, CMA), CIA or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in external and/or internal auditing in the financial services industry, preferably insurance and/or asset management, including risk-based audit planning, execution, file completion, reporting and supervision or management of audit staff.
  • Familiarity with the Institute of Internal Auditors International Standards of Practice and consideration of or progress toward a Certified Internal Auditor designation.
  • General understanding of the regulatory environment in North America and the United Kingdom.
  • Technical proficiency with personal computing and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Visio.
  • Strong risk assessment, evaluation and negotiation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, coaching and leadership skills and a commitment to talent development.
  • Excellent planning, project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel within Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom with one to two weeks’ notice.
  • A valid passport and unrestricted access to enter the United States and the United Kingdom.
  • Experience with information technology audits.
  • Fluency with audit report writing and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee North America and United Kingdom operational, compliance and financial audits and reviews.
  • Assist the Senior Vice President and Chief Internal Auditor in designing and creating annual audit plans.
  • Maintain and update the Audit Universe.
  • Present ad hoc to the Board and Audit Committee.
  • Manage and coach the Internal Audit Operations Team.
  • Manage co-source arrangements.
  • Execute technical audits and technical data analytics on engagements and audits.
  • Train the Internal Audit Department on best practices and enhance Internal Audit processes.
  • Develop and update the Internal Control Training module for annual training of North American and United Kingdom staff.
  • Benchmark the Internal Audit Department for best practices and conduct horizon scanning.
  • Manage, schedule and execute the annual audit plan, ensuring activities are completed on time and on budget.
  • Ensure audit engagements run efficiently and manage engagements as necessary.
  • Review audits for compliance with the Institute of Internal Auditors’ generally accepted audit practices and procedures and the Internal Audit Manual.
  • Review and approve audit plans for all audits.
  • Review data analytics performed on audit engagements.
  • Review draft audit reports and ensure timely distribution of final reports to management.
  • Evaluate audit findings and recommend process and system changes to reduce risk, improve performance and productivity, and ensure compliance with regulations, laws and standards.
  • Review the completeness and accuracy of audit reports, including the accuracy of stated findings.
  • Work with the Assistant Vice President of Information Technology Audit on integrated information technology and operational audits.
  • Provide leadership, direction and guidance to the team.
  • Conduct end-of-audit performance reviews and formal annual performance reviews.
  • Coach and develop team members, help resolve problems, and develop training programs.
  • Assist with development of the annual department budget.
  • Review the Internal Audit Manual annually and update audit programs, risk assessments, audit approaches, scopes of testing and procedural guidelines.
  • Work independently on audit engagements, including information technology audits, special reviews, consultations and other assignments.
  • Report quarterly on follow-up testing of management action items from previous audits.
  • Assist with preparing quarterly reports to the Audit Committee of the Board.
  • Manage Quality Assessment Reviews and the Improvement Program, update the Audit Universe, and lead the annual Internal Audit training week.
  • Develop culture assessment and Internal Audit benchmarking analytics.
  • Develop Internal Audit reporting on themes and audit results for presentation to the Executive Committee.
  • Maintain current knowledge of new and developing audit approaches and recommend changes.
  • Develop working relationships with business unit leaders in Operations, Information Technology, Legal and Compliance, Finance, Risk and Actuarial.
  • Represent Internal Audit on strategic, operational and information systems projects or committees as assigned.
  • Conduct or participate in on-site audits of North American or United Kingdom subsidiaries and third-party administrators as assigned.
  • Participate in external audit assistance and regulatory work assignments as assigned.
  • Conduct data analytics, support work assignments and special projects as assigned.
  • Conduct quality reviews of audit files as assigned.
  • Conduct internal control education and manage the training program as assigned.
  • Review the target operating model as assigned.
  • Perform special projects, investigations and other activities under the direction of the Senior Vice President and Chief Internal Auditor.
  • Perform the responsibilities of the Audit Senior Manager or other audit staff as needed.

  • Experience with IDEA, ACL or similar data analysis software.
  • Experience with Xcellerator software.
  • Experience with TeamMate audit management software.
  • FLMI or CISA designation.
  • Experience with information technology audits.
  • LOMA or life insurance experience.
  • Insurance and/or asset management experience.

Foresters Financial expands accelerated underwriting to $2M, broadens eligibility and adds digital tools

Foresters Financial has expanded its Accelerated Underwriting programme in the US, raising face amount limits to $2 million for ages 18 to 60 and $1 million for ages 61 to 65. The enhanced programme, effective 26 April 2026, broadens eligibility to include smokers and those taking hypertension or cholesterol medications. The updates introduce a pre-screen checklist on iPipeline iGO e-App, allowing producers to quickly identify potential eligibility before submission. The programme applies across all medically underwritten Foresters products, including Your Term, Advantage Plus II and SMART UL.
