Fortiss is a research institute in Bavaria that works on software-intensive systems and AI to help industry and government. Its work includes software and systems engineering, service engineering, and AI technologies, with a focus on turning research into real-world solutions. Fortiss collaborates with universities, industry leaders, and public-sector organizations, and it earns money through research grants, project collaborations, and consulting. The institute develops practical technologies such as next-generation network architectures for industrial IoT and interactive tools for planning autonomous vehicle behavior. Its main difference from competitors is a strong emphasis on technology transfer—moving academic research into industry and society—through open partnerships and applied projects. Fortiss aims to bridge the gap between academia and real-world implementation, enabling digital administration, smarter software systems, and advanced autonomous and connected technologies.
