Requirements
  • At least 8 years of hands-on United States and Canada payroll experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role managing a team.
  • Deep working knowledge of United States multi-state payroll tax, including nexus determination, reciprocity agreements, state unemployment insurance, state disability insurance, and supplemental withholding rates.
  • Solid understanding of Canadian payroll compliance, including Canada Pension Plan, Quebec Pension Plan, Employment Insurance, Quebec Parental Insurance Plan, provincial tax, and T4/RL-1 year-end processes.
  • Proven experience managing restricted stock unit and equity payroll from vest-event processing through W-2/T4 reconciliation.
  • Strong command of payroll reconciliation, general-ledger mapping, and accrual processes.
  • Experience leading teams of four or more people, including delegating, developing, and holding people accountable.
Responsibilities
  • Own the full payroll cycle, including semi-monthly and off-cycle runs, for all United States and Canadian employees while ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and a clean audit trail.
  • Manage the payroll calendar, cutoff deadlines, and coordination with Human Resources and Finance to ensure data integrity from hire through final pay.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for payroll discrepancies, employee queries, and operational issues, resolving them promptly and accurately.
  • Drive continuous improvement across payroll processes to reduce manual effort and increase controls.
  • Use Workday Payroll and Workday HCM as the primary payroll platform to manage pay runs, earnings and deduction codes, and audit reporting.
  • Use ADP Smart Compliance for multi-state and provincial tax filing, remittance, and amendment management.
  • Partner with Human Resources Information Systems and Information Technology on system upgrades, open-enrollment changes, and configuration changes requiring payroll-impact assessment.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual reconciliation and improve data accuracy across the payroll technology stack.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll-tax obligations across United States jurisdictions, including multi-state nexus, state unemployment insurance, state disability insurance, and local levies.
  • Manage Canadian payroll-tax compliance across all provinces, including Canada Pension Plan, Employment Insurance, provincial income tax, and Quebec-specific requirements.
  • Own year-end processes end to end, including W-2, W-2c, T4, T4A, and RL-1 reconciliation, employee distribution, and agency filing.
  • Manage tax registration, filing, amendment, and penalty response across all active jurisdictions.
  • Monitor legislative changes and translate them into process and system updates before they create compliance gaps.
  • Manage payroll processing and tax withholding for restricted stock unit vesting events, including vest schedules, sell-to-cover mechanics, and supplemental withholding rates.
  • Ensure correct payroll-tax treatment of Employee Stock Purchase Plans, nonqualified stock options, incentive stock options, and other equity instruments.
  • Partner with Legal and Tax on equity-income sourcing and Internal Revenue Service and Canada Revenue Agency reporting obligations.
  • Reconcile equity payroll data to stock-administration records each quarter.
  • Lead, develop, and performance-manage a team of four to five payroll professionals by setting expectations, managing workload, and building capability.
  • Build redundancy and cross-training for critical payroll processes.
  • Coach the team on tax law, equity mechanics, and compliance.
  • Design and maintain Sarbanes-Oxley-compliant payroll controls, including segregation of duties, approval workflows, and exception reporting.
  • Lead payroll’s response to internal and external audits by preparing documentation, managing timelines, and closing findings.
  • Maintain payroll-policy documentation and desktop procedures, updating them with legislative and system changes.
  • Produce monthly payroll metrics and variance analysis for Finance and Human Resources leadership.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certified Payroll Professional certification or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with Workday Payroll and Workday HCM in a payroll-operations context.
  • Hands-on experience with ADP Smart Compliance for multi-jurisdictional tax filing and agency management.
  • Experience supporting a high-growth technology company through rapid headcount scaling across new United States states and Canadian provinces.
  • Familiarity with Shareworks for stock-plan administration and equity-payroll integration.
  • Experience with payroll and equity-tax rules for mobile employee populations.
  • Exposure to global payroll coordination and vendor management beyond North America.

Databricks hires ex-AWS executive to lead Asia partners amid 85% growth

Databricks has appointed former Amazon Web Services executive Briscoe to lead its Asia Pacific & Japan partner organisation. She previously headed AWS's partner operations in the region and held similar roles at Microsoft and Cisco. The move supports Databricks' regional expansion. In April, the company named Simon Davies as regional leader and reported over 85% year-on-year growth in its fourth quarter. It now has more than 1,500 employees across Asia Pacific & Japan and plans to establish headquarters in Singapore. Coatue leads $3B Databricks investment at $134B valuation

Coatue Management is reportedly leading a $3 billion investment in Databricks, according to recent reports. The data analytics company previously raised roughly $5 billion earlier in 2026 at a $134 billion valuation. Databricks sells a lakehouse platform combining data lake and data warehouse capabilities and has expanded into AI software for enterprise applications. The company reported $5.4 billion in revenue run rate in February, up over 65% year on year, which grew to $6.9 billion by June. The earlier financing round included $2 billion in debt capacity intended to fund AI products, acquisitions and employee liquidity. At its current valuation, Databricks exceeds Snowflake's market capitalisation of approximately $83 billion. Management has indicated the company may remain private until market conditions improve.
