Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Prior experience as a gastrointestinal technician is preferred.
  • Successful completion of a Basic Cardiac Life Support course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
Responsibilities
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA Health.
  • Function as an assistive person during endoscopy procedures by protecting patients from injury; operating equipment safely; reporting unsafe situations; raising safety concerns; handling specimens; following standard precautions and using personal protective equipment; maintaining wound and tissue perfusion; preventing infection; protecting patient rights, dignity, and privacy; providing age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards; complying with Universal Protocol and site-validation and time-out policies; assembling procedural supplies and equipment; preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments; providing instruments and supplies to the endoscopist; and maintaining an organized sterile field.
  • Evaluate patients’ progress toward attaining outcomes.
  • Provide accurate, concise, and pertinent hand-off reports concerning patients’ conditions and responses to care.
  • Maintain endoscopy instruments and accessories in working order, troubleshoot them, and recognize malfunctions.
  • Clean and prepare equipment and instruments for processing and transport them to decontamination areas.
  • Ensure scopes are prepared for use according to policies, procedures, and manufacturers’ instructions for use.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning patient care.
  • Assist with post-procedure cleaning of the procedure room and prepare the room for subsequent patients.
  • Participate in quality review and performance-improvement projects.
  • Participate in the performance-appraisal process.
  • Use problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills to foster effective work relationships.
  • Maintain required competencies.
  • Pursue professional growth.
  • Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, trainings, and daily safety huddles.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
