About the Position
Do you have a legal assistant background and are you someone who is detail oriented, has great organizational skills and the ability to multi-task? Do you enjoy providing support, solving problems and making improvements to work processes? If so, consider becoming part of the Office of Public Defense Services by becoming our newest Administrative Supervisor!
In this role, you will serve as the supervisor for one of the units in the office. In addition, you will be heavily involved in process improvement efforts, legal analysis and administrative work providing support to the Director and office management.
About Us
The Maricopa County Office of Public Defense Services assigns and oversees private attorneys contracted to represent indigent individuals in criminal, delinquency, dependency, mental health, and probate matters. We provide administrative support, financial oversight, integrated technology solutions, and HR support to all five of Maricopa County’s Indigent Representation offices (Public Defender, Legal Defender, Legal Advocate, Public Advocate, and Contract Counsel) in an effort to ensure indigent individuals have their fundamental rights protected and receive quality legal representation.

We Require
Five years of progressively responsible administrative experience
High school diploma or GED
A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
We Also Value
Legal Assistant experience
Prior lead or supervisory experience
Bachelors degree
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Knowledge of the structure and functions of Maricopa County, the Criminal Defense System, and/or Public Defense Services departments
Job Contributions
Supervise assigned staff; hire, train, schedule, mentor, evaluate performance, and handle disciplinary matters
Analyze and quantify a variety of processes and procedures; implement procedural changes to improve overall effectiveness and productivity of assigned staff and office as a whole
Gather information and analyze operational and administrative problems; propose and implement solutions
Review, assess, and approve/respond to Request of Fund submittals
Provide legal administrative support to department management; compose/prepare, proofs, and edit a variety of legal and administrative correspondence
Compile and analyze data; prepare statistics, monthly reports, and summary reports for management
Research and compile information for special projects
Answer inquiries regarding the interpretation of policies and procedures
Assist in the identification of strategic issues, goals, objectives, and performance measures for the department
Working Conditions
Interruptions, time pressure, high volumes of work, handling multiple or complicated tasks, unscheduled tasks, and frequently changing tasks may be common occurrences
Frequent and constant practice of accuracy, decision-making, concentration, vigilance, teamwork, and working in close physical proximity with others
