Requirements
  • Graduation from a Health Care Aide program or a provincial equivalent certificate program with a minimum of 500 hours of theory and practicum in Ontario and Alberta.
  • Experience working with seniors in a community health services setting.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Interpersonal and customer-focused skills.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in providing personal care duties.
  • Ability to perform necessary position tasks, including lifting and transferring clients.
  • A complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Background Check, issued within six months, or willingness to obtain one.
Responsibilities
  • Adhere to the plan of care determined by the supervisor.
  • Facilitate residents' move-ins and transfers where applicable.
  • Observe and report resident care and services using appropriate company forms or tools.
  • Assist residents with personal care, hygiene, and activities of daily living.
  • Observe and report changes in residents' conditions to the supervisor.
  • Escalate medical emergencies to the supervisor or emergency medical services as appropriate.
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals as required.
  • Assist with ambulation, mobilization, transferring, and adaptive aids.
  • Demonstrate understanding of resident needs and maximize residents' abilities.
  • Provide cognitive, social, emotional, and psychological support to residents and families.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of resident information.
  • Respond to resident and family concerns, take appropriate action within decision-making authority, and communicate concerns to the supervisor.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment, including residents' equipment, belongings, and nursing equipment.
  • Report concerns regarding residents' safety to the supervisor, implement interventions as directed, and advocate on residents' behalf to maintain their safety.
  • Engage with other agencies involved in resident care as directed.
  • Attend in-services to develop knowledge and skills.
  • Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults.
  • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating to ethics, morality, and integrity.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid certification is recommended.
