Requirements
  • At least 8 years of full-time paid professional experience managing facilities design or planning and coordinating capital projects that included overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling activities.
  • At least 4 years of this experience must involve the design, planning, and construction of educational facilities or similar public-agency projects.
  • A bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering from a recognized college or university.
Responsibilities
  • Manage, develop, and coordinate the district's architectural and engineering services design process to ensure plans meet functional-program, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements.
  • Manage multiple projects, including engineering repair and critical repair projects, by interacting with architects, consultants, and district personnel to ensure timely completion.
  • Oversee the building design process to ensure compliance with district standards and guidelines, working with design professionals and district administrators to ensure new and modernized structures meet educational and building standards.
  • Establish and follow a process to identify and select the architectural firm best suited for each project based on qualifications and performance capability.
  • Provide architects with clear and consistent direction regarding goals, objectives, standards, site, schedule, and budget for each project.
  • Establish and follow an effective and efficient design review process to ensure designs meet overall project goals and objectives.
  • Ensure budgeted funds provide maximum value and meet the functional needs of the district, local community, and environment.
  • Review design changes to ensure projects remain within budget.
  • Monitor project planning and design status and report findings, recommendations, and updates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect from the California State Architectural Board or a Professional Engineer license from the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
