Requirements
  • A current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or a current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Have less than 12 months of experience as a registered nurse.
  • Demonstrate novice-level knowledge and skills to provide age-specific patient care and interpret patient data.
  • Possess interpersonal skills to communicate, negotiate, and resolve conflict.
  • Use competent clinical practice and critical-thinking skills to deliver patient care efficiently with health care providers.
  • Be able to adapt to changes in work volume, staffing, scheduling, workloads, and assignments.
  • Meet the physical requirements of heavy or hard work, including lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials and equipment weighing 40 or more pounds.
  • Have visual acuity and hearing within normal range.
  • Work protracted or irregular hours and around biohazards, infectious diseases, deceased persons, water, and electrical hazards associated with patient-care equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver nursing care through the nursing process and independent nursing judgment in an inpatient hospital setting.
  • Demonstrate safety and continuity of care through documentation and handoff tools or processes.
  • Create plans of care using assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and evaluation of outcomes.
  • Recognize patient safety concerns through appropriate resources.
  • Provide education based on patients' unique learning needs.
  • Incorporate patient individuality and mutuality data into care delivery.
  • Perform adequate patient assessments and documentation.
  • Use the teach-back method to evaluate education effectiveness.
  • Use Evidence-Based Practice in nursing care.
  • Participate in the organizational patient-centered care model.
  • Document problems and issues in plans of care.
  • Develop the ability to care for more complex patients in consultation with experienced colleagues.
  • Maintain accountability for delegated nursing care.
  • Recognize the scope of practice of interprofessional team members.
  • Participate in holistic and culturally sensitive data collection.
  • Assess the impact of family dynamics on health and wellness.
  • Apply the American Nurses Association code of ethics to nursing practice.
  • Identify discriminatory health-care practices in culturally diverse populations.
  • Individualize care based on patients' beliefs, barriers, and readiness to learn.
  • Complete annual education required for specialty accreditation through computer-based learning, training, in-services, or competency validation.
  • Use lift equipment or other patient-handling aids for transfers, lifts, and repositioning as indicated by the patient's profile and applicable algorithms.
