Requirements
  • High school diploma with work experience in customer service or general clerical work involving contact with the public, or an equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Working knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems, including word processing, file and record management, office forms and applications, office procedures and terminology, mathematics, graphs, basic human service needs, and state computer programs.
  • Skill in operating automated office equipment, including calculators, fax machines, and copiers, and using computer-driven word-processing, spreadsheet, graphics, and file-maintenance programs.
  • Ability to work with clients, co-workers, professionals, and the public; read and comprehend simple documents; write simple correspondence; present information one-on-one and in small groups; follow written and oral instructions; perform basic mathematics; plan, organize, and prioritize daily tasks; use correct spelling and basic grammar; and display courtesy.
  • Successful completion of employment verification, reference checks, education verification, Department of Motor Vehicles driving-record check, Central Registry check, and criminal-history check for barrier crimes.
  • Willingness to work in the community emergency shelter during a natural disaster or emergency.
  • Compliance with local vehicle insurance requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Interview clients and take applications for services or benefits.
  • Document files, input data, and prepare and maintain records.
  • Prepare periodic, special, and other reports.
  • Verify complex statistical and other complicated reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare and type financial and statistical forms, reports, and case documentation.
  • Prepare case files and complete inquiries.
  • Purge cases.
  • Answer the telephone and take messages.
  • Purchase clothing for children.
  • Transport clients.
  • Assist children with activities of daily living.
  • Mail vendor invoices, surveys, and other correspondence.
