Requirements
  • An associate degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA-accredited institution or equivalent experience, plus New York State licensure or eligibility to be licensed.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience, preferably in an operating room setting.
  • Ability to work with multiple large animal species, including equine and bovine.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment while maintaining close attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including stressful situations, prolonged standing and kneeling, and lifting and restraining animals that may exceed 50 pounds.
  • Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series before or immediately after hire.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiology, imaging, and other surgical team members to provide a safe and comfortable environment where patients receive a high standard of care.
  • Assist with the daily flow of surgeries, including communication across services, preparation of surgery rooms with equipment and supplies, assistance with anesthetic inductions, patient positioning, surgical clipping and preparation, and transporting patients to the surgical suite.
  • Assist surgeons, surgery house staff, and students with scheduled and emergency surgical procedures.
  • Act as the circulating technician during procedures.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions during surgical procedures.
  • Ensure that patient charges entered in the Hospital’s Information System are complete and accurate.
  • Provide technical support for equine and farm animal patients, their owners and referring veterinarians, clinicians, staff, and students.
  • Work weekend, holiday, night, and weekend day shifts as needed to support uninterrupted patient care.
  • Cross-train with other services to support business continuity as business needs allow.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a medical or veterinary office.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, veterinary medicine, medical records systems, and scheduling systems.
  • Previous experience with scheduling and greeting patients or clients.
  • Experience in a high-volume caseload environment.
