Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least two years of experience in case management, tenant organization, counseling, community outreach, and/or direct advocacy for clients in social service settings is preferred.
  • Computer literacy with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the five boroughs and make multiple community visits as needed is required.
  • Sporadic evening or weekend hours may be required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality and data-driven reporting is required.
  • Experience balancing a large caseload with competing priorities in a direct service organization is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct the intake process with new clients within 48 hours of assignment, including explaining client rights and responsibilities and grievance procedures.
  • Develop initial housing plans and conduct plan reviews for an assigned caseload.
  • Assess eligible housing vouchers with clients, identify housing preferences, search for matching opportunities, coordinate housing tours and interviews, collect documents, and complete applications and paperwork.
  • Schedule regular follow-up after initial placement to identify support needs, troubleshoot incidents, confirm payment, reapply for vouchers, and support lease renewals.
  • Complete accurate, complete, and timely data entry and documentation of housing status, interactions, communications, supportive social services, and client progress toward securing permanent affordable housing.
  • Attend staff meetings, case conferences, group supervision, professional development activities, and consortium partner activities as needed.
  • Support an environment embodying diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • Use effective feedback and communication practices at all levels of staff engagement.
  • Perform job-related tasks as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in a human services field is preferred.
  • Experience working with homeless individuals and people living with health, mental health, or substance use issues is preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and city housing and disability laws and codes is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with New York City voucher programs, housing subsidies, and supportive housing programs is preferred.
  • Familiarity with HOME, CARES, CAPS, and Housing Connect databases is preferred.
  • Bilingual or multilingual ability is preferred.
  • An action-oriented, entrepreneurial, flexible, and innovative approach to interacting with and supporting clients is preferred.

It coordinates services such as case management, housing and stabilization, behavioral health treatment, recovery supports, rehabilitation, advocacy, and community-based programs tailored to each person’s needs. By linking housing, health, justice, and community resources, S:US delivers integrated, place-based services that address multiple barriers at once rather than focusing on a single issue. The goal is to help people lead purposeful lives, improve neighborhoods, and break the cycle of poverty for current and future generations of New Yorkers.
