Job Details:
Purpose
Support research and development activities in the Environmental Sciences Laboratory (ESL)
Responsibilities
Process and/or analyze acoustic data for developing, testing, and evaluating SONAR systems.
Develop and implement research grade software and analysis tools in MATLAB and UNIX shell scripting. Software applications may include novel graphic visualizations, statistical analysis methods, or signal processing applications.
Travel to remote locations to provide support for data collection and processing efforts at sites and at sea.
Preparation and review of analysis presentations and technical reports, and presenting results at internal and external meetings.
Support collaborative research efforts with other team members.
Assist with data transfer processes and ensure compliance with security requirements.
Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related discipline.
- Experience with software design, programing, and analysis using MATLAB.
- The position will require attention to detail, effective problem solving, sound engineering judgment, good communication skills, and the ability to use time effectively in order to meet deadlines.
Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks and managing their time. Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision and effectively communicate with all groups of clients. Able to work under pressure and accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance.

Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related discipline.
Current or recent eligibility for access to classified information.
Two years of experience with one or more of the following: analysis of acoustic data, signal processing or automation algorithms design, and/or estimating sonar system performance.
One or more years of experience in designing, coding, and testing complex MATLAB software.
Experience with remote field work either at sea or in geophysical applications.
Experience summarizing analysis results in PowerPoint and presenting research results.
Proven ability to work independently, formulate research questions, and take initiative.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Salary Range
$88,500-$120,000+/negotiable depending on qualifications
