HVMG names Pete Sams president. ATLANTA, August 19, 2026 - Hospitality Ventures Management Group (HVMG), an Atlanta-based operator of 60 premium-branded full-service hotels, resorts, and upscale select-service hotels, today announced that Pete Sams has joined the company as president. As president, Sams will oversee the day-to-day business and be responsible for company performance as HVMG continues its pursuit of operational excellence and enters its next phase of growth. "After a thoughtful and diligent search process and spending significant time getting to know Pete both personally and professionally, it became very clear that he is the right person and an exceptional fit for this role," said Robert Cole, founder and CEO. "We share a strong alignment around leadership philosophy, and Pete brings a compelling combination of operational excellence, industry relationships, financial and business acumen, and a proven ability to develop high-performing teams." Cole added, "His career provides a rare depth and breadth of experience across the hospitality industry - from his first 10 years in finance and accounting, to a decade in property-level general manager roles, to the past 12 years in senior, above-property leadership overseeing full-service, multi-unit operations. Finally, with Pete assuming the role of president, I'll be able to take a step back from the day-to-day operations and devote more of my time to strategy, strengthening our existing relationships and building new ones that will support our continued growth." Sams joins HVMG most recently from Highgate Hotels, where he served as president. Previously, Sams held multiple leadership roles within the KSL portfolio, including serving for more than six years as chief operating officer of Peregrine Hospitality and Davidson Hospitality Group. At Peregrine, he helped launch a dedicated, in-house management platform for KSL Capital that operated more than 45 distinguished hotels, including several premier destination resorts. As COO of Davidson, the company doubled in size during his tenure and won the prestigious J.D. Power Award for top guest satisfaction among third-party operators. Earlier in his career, Sams held corporate above-property leadership positions with Interstate Hotels & Resorts and White Lodging Services and spent more than a decade as a general manager with Omni Hotels & Resorts, including at its 836-room flagship hotel in Washington, D.C. After proudly serving in the U.S. Army, Sams earned his bachelor's degree in finance from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. "I am honored to join HVMG as president at such an exciting time in the company's evolution," Sams said. "As a founder of two companies and a former general manager himself, Robert has built HVMG from a single hotel 25 years ago into an organization with a strong foundation, an inspiring culture and values that align with my own. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with Robert and lead this talented team as we build on that foundation, continue raising the bar on performance and position HVMG for its next chapter of growth."

The hotel is set to welcome guests in December 2026 at the corner of Park Avenue South and 29th Street in Manhattan's NoMad neighborhood. Viceroy has partnered with Tao Group Hospitality to lead the hotel's food and beverage programming. Viceroy previously had a property on 57th Street in Manhattan, but it stopped operating as a Viceroy in 2019 and rebranded into Le Méridien New York, Central Park. Designed by Meyer Davis Studio, the hotel will feature 252 guestrooms and suites, including four presidential suites, a rooftop pool and lounge, meeting and event spaces, and a spa and wellness area. Three of the presidential suites, located on the 18th floor, range from 755 square feet to 2,100 square feet, alongside a duplex suite with 2,000 square feet of living and entertaining space. The property offers more than 15,000 square feet of event space across three dedicated rooms. The spa and fitness center, located on the third floor, includes four treatment rooms, a sauna, steam room and cold plunge. "Viceroy Park Avenue represents an exciting milestone for our brand and a natural next step, as we continue shaping a more thoughtful, experiential approach to luxury hospitality," said Arash Azarbarzin, CEO of Viceroy Hotels & Residences. With Viceroy Park Avenue, we are creating a hotel that reflects the energy and cultural spirit of New York City while delivering a style of hospitality that feels refined yet relaxed, elevated yet human. New York is one of the most important hospitality markets in the world, and our return to the city is an important step in the continued growth of the Viceroy brand." "Viceroy has built a reputation for delivering distinctive luxury hospitality experiences, and we're excited to partner with such an iconic brand," said Noah Tepperberg, Co-CEO of Tao Group Hospitality. BW 839: capital, character & the new luxury landscape. As boutique hospitality continues to evolve, the industry's next phase is being shaped by a powerful combination of investment activity, experiential... Ariela Kiradjian As boutique hospitality continues to evolve, the industry's next phase is being shaped by a powerful combination of investment activity, experiential differentiation, and a growing appetite for place-driven luxury. From major transactions and resort developments to design-forward openings and culturally immersive dining experiences, this week's headlines reveal an industry increasingly focused on creating value through identity rather than scale. Industry activity underscores the continued strength of the luxury and boutique segments. Leadership changes at Braemar Hotels & Resorts signal a new chapter for the company as it moves toward greater independence, while billionaire Naguib Sawiris' €100 million luxury resort investment highlights the growing appeal of emerging destinations as travelers seek experiences beyond traditional luxury hubs. At the same time, a recent JLL report projects a surge in luxury hotel transactions, reinforcing investor confidence in high-end hospitality assets. That momentum is echoed by Highgate's takeover of the Lotte New York Palace, a move that reflects how operational expertise, brand positioning, and strategic acquisitions are becoming increasingly interconnected across the global hotel landscape. New hotel openings further illustrate how luxury continues to diversify. In Las Vegas, Lisa Vanderpump's new boutique hotel introduces a highly personalized hospitality concept that blends entertainment, design, and lifestyle branding. In New York's Hudson Valley, Foster Supply Hospitality's latest project in Newburgh demonstrates the continued appeal of adaptive reuse and destination-driven development. Along Italy's most iconic lakefront, new Lake Como hospitality projects are capitalizing on one of the world's most enduring luxury destinations, while the Maldives welcomes a wave of new luxury resort brands as developers seek to meet growing demand for experiential, ultra-luxury escapes. Design remains central to how hotels distinguish themselves in an increasingly competitive market. A Ken Fulk-led redesign demonstrates how thoughtful renovation can reposition an asset while preserving its legacy. In Mexico City, the Lamartine Hotel showcases a contemporary approach to urban hospitality that balances architecture, neighborhood identity, and residential comfort. Denmark's Cori Hornbæk embraces a more intimate design philosophy rooted in simplicity and connection to place, while collaborations between hospitality and lifestyle brands - such as Hartmann Luggage's partnership with The Beatrice Hotel - illustrate how guest experiences increasingly extend beyond the hotel stay itself. Food and beverage continue to serve as one of hospitality's most influential cultural touchpoints. Noma's highly anticipated Los Angeles residency demonstrates the enduring power of destination dining to drive travel demand and global attention. In Portugal, Malhadinha's celebration of wine, gastronomy, and rural hospitality highlights the growing appeal of immersive culinary experiences rooted in local culture. Meanwhile, New York's museum restaurants are redefining the intersection of art, dining, and social engagement, while Venice's newest design-forward restaurant demonstrates how storytelling, atmosphere, and visual identity have become as important as the menu itself. Taken together, these developments point toward a hospitality sector where luxury is increasingly measured by distinctiveness, cultural relevance, and emotional connection. Investment remains strong, but capital is flowing toward concepts that offer more than accommodation alone. Whether through design, culinary programming, adaptive reuse, or destination creation, the industry's most successful players are proving that the future of hospitality belongs to those who can transform a stay into a meaningful experience.
