Requirements
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • Five to ten years of construction inspection experience is required.
  • Experience in construction, inspection, material testing, or transportation engineering for highway and bridge projects for the Missouri Department of Transportation and municipalities is required.
  • A safety-first mindset is required.
  • Strong writing, listening, and communication skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Measure distances to verify the accuracy of structural installation dimensions and layouts.
  • Verify the levels, alignment, and elevation of installations.
  • Observe work in progress to ensure that procedures are followed and materials used conform to specifications.
  • Prepare material samples for laboratory testing.
  • Examine finished installations for conformity to standards and approve the installations.
  • Interpret plans and specifications for contractors and discuss deviations from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with construction regulations.
  • Record quantities of materials received or used during specified periods and develop pay estimates and change orders.
  • Maintain daily logs of construction and inspection activities and compare progress reports.
  • Monitor several types of work activity, though not simultaneously.
  • Maintain construction safety practices and work methods for compliance.
  • Manage documents using electronic platforms such as AASHTOWare, e-Builder, or Transport.
Desired Qualifications
  • ACI Field and/or Strength certification, Troxler certification, or a similar state Missouri Department of Transportation certification is recommended but not required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with peers, clients, and contractors to solve problems and conflicts.
  • Ability and desire to lead.
