A Day in the Life
In Medtronic Neuromodulation R&D, we focus on the development of cutting-edge medical devices and therapies that modulate the nervous system. The Neuromodulation Pain Interventions product portfolio includes the SynchroMed III Implantable Infusion System, which uses Targeted Drug Delivery (TDD) uses to deliver intrathecal drug therapies for treating Chronic Pain and Severe Spasticity. This Senior Scientist contributes to research and development of innovative new products, procedures, therapies and technologies in the TDD and Chronic Pain spaces
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
Develop core technical expertise in TDD, Drug / Device Interactions and Chronic Pain
Research, develop and test new methods and algorithms for treating Chronic Pain or other neurological conditions with TDD or other neuromodulation therapy modalities
Design and execute preclinical and premarket clinical studies to evaluate scientific, clinical and technical feasibility of applying new therapy and technology concepts to current products and new innovations
Analyze data, write research reports, prepare and deliver presentation on the research, submit patent disclosures, and publish abstracts and manuscripts
Collaborate closely with Marketing, Product Development, Regulatory and Clinical Research teams to support development of new therapies, products and features
Represent Medtronic Neuromodulation externally with our Customers and Key Opinion Leaders
Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Requires a bachelor in a technical field
4 years of relevant experience
2 years of experience Master’s degree/PHD
Nice to Have - Core skills needed for success in the role and qualifications of highly qualified candidates.
Requires a PharmD, Pharmacology PhD, or equivalent
5 years of relevant experience with Master’s degree
Deep understanding of chemistry, pharmacology and drug development
Experience in pharmacology, chemistry/biochemistry and / or neuroscience research
Experience with Drug / Device Combination Therapies and Drug / Device Interactions
Understanding the principles of drug delivery, absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion
Hands-on experience with laboratory techniques, experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex scientific and engineering challenges.
Ability to learn and follow policies and procedures that comply regulations
Dynamic team player with strong interpersonal, leadership and team skills who can work effectively and proactively on cross-functional team
History working in regulated medical industries and with US FDA and EU MDR regulations and standards
Experience in neuromodulation device technology and product development
Experience in business development, market research, user needs, voice of customer
Experience working directly with clinician researchers and CROs

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$106,400.00 - $159,600.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
