  • Dental assisting faculty must have background in and current knowledge of dental assisting, the specific subjects they are teaching, and educational theory and methodology consistent with the teaching assignment, including curriculum development, educational psychology, test construction, measurement, and evaluation.
  • Faculty providing didactic instruction must have earned at least a baccalaureate degree.
  • Laboratory, preclinical, and clinical faculty must hold any current dental assisting credential required by the state in addition to a Dental Assisting National Board Certified Dental Assistant credential, unless an applicable state-licensed dentist or eligible licensed dental hygiene faculty exception applies.
  • Faculty must keep current with all license and certification requirements by maintaining continuing education hours required by the dental board.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or individuals lawfully authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Provide effective instruction in dental assisting to meet students’ educational needs and specified learning objectives.
  • Teach assigned courses on or off campus, during the day or evening, following official syllabi and using approved textbooks and learning materials.
  • Meet all scheduled classes regularly, on time, and for their full duration.
  • Establish learning objectives and outcomes for assigned courses.
  • Evaluate student performance and assign grades.
  • Serve as an academic advisor to students as assigned.
  • Maintain office hours and arrange appointments with students at other times.
  • Participate in the department’s or division’s review of courses and programs.
  • Evaluate course content, student needs, and instructional methods and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Assist in preparing course syllabi and engage in curriculum development, including revising and updating existing courses and programs and creating new courses and programs.
  • Evaluate student support materials available in the library and recommend improvements to collections in the field.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other required information.
  • Arrange with the department chair or assistant dean for class coverage when absent.
  • Meet all deadlines for submitting grades and other required student information.
  • Attend faculty meetings, appropriate convocations, and graduation exercises.
  • Maintain accreditation standards, policies, and procedures and assist the director in doing so.
