Requirements
  • An Associate’s degree in early childhood education, Child Development, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working in an early childhood setting is required.
  • Obtain and maintain current Pennsylvania Child Abuse, Criminal Background, and FBI Fingerprint clearances.
  • Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification is required, or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of employment.
  • Completion of mandated reporter training.
  • Knowledge of child development principles, early learning standards, and best practices in early education.
  • Ability to assist with lesson planning, classroom implementation, and ongoing observation and assessment of children’s progress.
  • Comfort using Google Workspace, including Docs, Drive, Slides, and Gmail, and other digital tools for classroom documentation, communication, and collaboration.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive early education.
  • Dependability, adaptability, and a proactive approach to supporting classroom needs and program goals.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing engaging lesson plans aligned with early learning standards, individual child goals, and the center’s mission.
  • Support whole-group, small-group, and individualized classroom activities.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
  • Create and maintain inviting learning centers and educational materials.
  • Model and reinforce pro-social behaviors, classroom expectations, and social-emotional learning strategies.
  • Facilitate play-based learning experiences that promote foundational literacy, numeracy, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Actively supervise children in classrooms, playgrounds, field trips, and during transitions.
  • Assist with serving meals and snacks in accordance with health, nutrition, and safety protocols.
  • Record attendance, developmental observations, and other required data in compliance with Department of Human Services and Pre-K Counts standards.
  • Partner with families, colleagues, and leadership to foster open communication and consistency in children’s care and learning experiences.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-prepared classroom environment that meets regulatory and programmatic guidelines.
  • Participate in required training, professional development, and credentialing opportunities.
  • Assume instructional responsibilities and classroom-management duties in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree.
  • Pennsylvania Early Childhood Education Certification (Pre-K–4), or the ability to obtain certification within one year.
  • Experience supporting curriculum development and classroom management.
