- Three years of clinical laboratory experience is preferred.
- Experience in central processing or phlebotomy is preferred.
- Knowledge of laboratory tests, test requirements, and laboratory terminology is needed.
- Ability to manipulate, calibrate, and troubleshoot electronic, clinical, and computer equipment is required.
- Ability to operate department specialty equipment at the user level is required.
- Ability to interpret laboratory orders and assess laboratory results is required.
- Perform specimen accessioning, specimen preparation, clerical registration, and phlebotomy duties under general supervision.
- Observe specimens to determine whether volume, condition, collection, and documentation are appropriate for requested procedures.
- Verify and clarify conflicting or unclear orders with physicians or nursing staff within one hour.
- Prepare specimens for testing according to written protocols.
- Distribute processed specimens to the appropriate testing areas promptly so results are not delayed.
- Document paperwork with the information outlined in laboratory protocols.
- Scan orders into the electronic medical record as needed.
- Interact with patients, physicians, nurses, laboratory staff, department managers, team leaders, and administration.
- Three years of clinical laboratory experience.
