Requirements
  • High school education augmented by two years of college training in metallurgy, weld design, and strength of materials, plus five years of progressively responsible experience in welding and developing welding processes for precision metal products, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to independently perform varied and complex professional duties in the specialized field of welding.
  • Ability to analyze technical and cost aspects of welding problems and investigate or develop welding processes.
  • Ability to develop repeatable and sustainable weld quality processes compatible with single-piece flow-line production.
  • Ability to coordinate the activities of employees assisting with welding research programs.
  • Ability to maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area while adhering to safety and quality practices.
  • Ability to comply with applicable trade compliance requirements governing access to facilities, systems, and controlled technical data.
Responsibilities
  • Study and analyze existing technical and cost information relating to welding problems before beginning investigations or development programs.
  • Experiment with, or coordinate experiments involving, new applications of tools, equipment, and welding processes to determine the capacities, limitations, and characteristic reactions of metals and processes used or usable in aircraft and missile-part manufacturing.
  • Investigate and develop new methods of joining materials.
  • Act as the solver for welding problems referred by foremen.
  • Issue technical reports and welding process specifications.
  • Record, compile, and analyze test results from welding research and derive conclusions for supervisory review.
  • Develop detailed plans for repeatable and sustainable weld quality in single-piece flow-line production.
  • Review and analyze welding-program results produced by other personnel and recommend proven research processes and procedures for assembling company products.
  • Submit periodic reports to the supervisor describing programs, future plans, and progress on current work.
  • Develop or identify and recommend improvements to engineering design methods, engineering processes, and equipment to simplify production, reduce costs, or improve product quality.
  • Observe the success of recommended changes and maintain records verifying their effectiveness.
  • Coordinate assisting employees and follow up with participating departments to track progress and complete welding research operations on schedule.
  • Keep current with improvements in welding equipment, processes, and techniques.
  • Coordinate welder certification.
  • Follow applicable senior policies and procedures and perform other assigned duties.

Senior plc awarded multi year Airbus contract for aerospace components. Senior plc (LON:SNR), an international manufacturer of high technology components and systems, has announced today that it has been awarded a multi-year contract by Airbus for the design, qualification and manufacture of various highly engineered Aerospace Standard parts for fluid conveyance applications. The initial production will supply components for both dual and single aisle commercial aircraft platforms, with significant further potential in the spares and repairs markets. Delivery will begin in Q1 2026, from Senior's facilities in Europe. This contract highlights Senior's expertise in designing and producing complex, highly engineered, aerospace components, as well as its ability to secure major business with leading airframers. This award reinforces Senior's strong and extensive experience in product design and qualification, and continued investment in advanced manufacturing technologies. These new product lines will further enhance Senior's capabilities in pressed, formed, and highly engineered standard components. Commenting on the award, Launie Fleming, CEO of Senior Aerospace: "Our teams in Europe have been working hard to develop and qualify these highly engineered standard parts that have multiple applications across the commercial aircraft business of Airbus.
