Requirements
  • The candidate must be at least 18 years of age.
  • The candidate must have one year or more of experience in fitness.
  • The candidate must successfully complete the State of Florida Criminal History Background Check and meet the association’s background-screening policies.
  • The candidate must have appropriate fitness certification.
  • The candidate must have CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
  • The candidate must complete the YMCA’s Blood Borne Pathogens training annually.
  • The candidate must complete the YMCA’s Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Class annually.
  • The candidate must comply with staff safety requirements and cleaning protocols.
  • The candidate must complete additional training classes as recommended by the supervisor.
  • The candidate must have verbal and written communication skills.
  • The candidate must not diagnose injuries, offer medical advice, or dispense or endorse commercial health products, including nutritional supplements, vitamins, performance-enhancing substances, and pain relievers.
  • The candidate must complete Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse as a condition of employment.
  • The candidate must comply with the drug-, alcohol-, and smoke-free workplace policy.
  • The candidate must be a self-starter with high energy and a positive attitude.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with the leadership, management, and supervision of health-enhancement activities, including the wellness center, health innovations, and group exercise.
  • Oversee safe, effective, and physically appropriate wellness programming and classes.
  • Stay current with group-exercise trends and suggest recommendations.
  • Hire, train, and supervise assigned staff, including instructors, trainers, and volunteers, to ensure proper staffing levels.
  • Review and evaluate staff performance and develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Create and implement the monthly group-exercise schedule and update it weekly.
  • Promote group-exercise classes and encourage member engagement.
  • Ensure group-exercise instructors maintain current certifications.
  • Ensure classes are safe and comply with industry standards and guidelines.
  • Become familiar with participants and members, including their names, health concerns, and physical limitations.
  • Attend and host regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  • Direct maintenance concerns to the Executive, Wellness, or Program Director immediately.
  • Manage payroll for Wellness staff.
  • Participate in YMCA-sponsored special events and activities when possible.
  • Uphold staff safety requirements and department cleaning protocols throughout the day.
  • Teach, train, and coach members.
  • Assist with marketing and distributing program information and organize and schedule program registrations when needed.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Assess the community for needs, opportunities, and threats related to the successful development of the Wellness Department.
  • Develop and monitor the program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Respond to member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Compile program statistics and monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and participation.
  • Assist the Executive, Wellness, or Program Director with additional duties as required.
  • Perform exercise activities, demonstrate exercise movements, communicate with classes, and maintain the physical capacity to perform class motions.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds and walk, bend, reach, and kneel to access equipment.
