Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of five years of experience working with Caterpillar or competitor power generation systems is required.
  • A clean driving record and current driver's license are required.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • The candidate must be able to comprehend, speak, and write English.
  • A sound understanding of electricity and electronics, including alternating-current and direct-current circuits and basic power generation systems, is required.
  • Strong problem-solving, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills are required, including the ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of safety rules, laws, and regulations concerning engine service, electrical and technical functions of components, and tooling procedures and capabilities is required.
  • The employee must be able to safely operate equipment and meet the physical demands of standing, walking, reaching, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and moving up to 25 pounds.
  • The employee must be able to work around moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, weather conditions, vibration, chemicals, temperature extremes, electrical shock risks, and loud noise.
Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot operational failures of generator sets and related equipment, including industrial engines.
  • Install and commission new generator units.
  • Perform minor and major repairs to engines, generators, and their components.
  • Mentor other technicians.
  • Safely drive a service vehicle.
  • Document all completed work and repairs clearly, concisely, and in a timely manner.
  • Read schematics and diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical and mechanical problems.
  • Install, service, and repair generators, uninterruptible power supply systems, switchgear, automatic transfer switches, and related system products.
  • Coordinate first-time start-up installations and work with other systems, including multiple generator sets and paralleling switchgear, to ensure the equipment operates together properly as a system.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot customers' electrical and mechanical problems to ensure systems operate safely and efficiently.
  • Complete scheduled repairs and service safely and within identified time constraints while providing quality workmanship.
