Requirements
  • Deep experience in petroleum geology, geophysics and/or related disciplines in multiple basins.
  • Experience planning and implementing a secondary development or water disposal project from candidate selection through injection operations.
  • Comfort navigating public data sources and working with regulatory agencies across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Experience building or interpreting geologic models to determine storage capacity and containment.
  • Experience with well testing, including test design and execution in order to translate results into actionable objectives.
  • Familiarity with aspects of drilling, completing and reworking well operations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of petrophysics and formation evaluation as they relate to fluid flow and reservoir confinement.
Responsibilities
  • Work with teammates in operations and with local technical consultants to screen injection assets and estimate capacity, geologic suitability, safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Set objectives, organize data collection, and evaluate success of baseline injectivity tests and data collection. Evaluate reservoir quality and prepare permit packages based on results.
  • Interpret and integrate a comprehensive suite of technical data and construct subsurface maps (structural,, thickness and other reservoir properties, pressure, etc.).
  • Compile and interpret geologic and geophysical data from well operations.

Charm Industrial focuses on carbon capture and storage to help combat climate change. The company collects agricultural residues, which are the leftover parts of crops after harvesting, and converts them into bio-oil using a process called pyrolysis. This process transforms biomass into a carbon-rich liquid through a self-sustaining reaction. The bio-oil is then pumped deep underground, where it solidifies and permanently removes carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. This method not only helps in reducing CO2 levels but also minimizes risks like wildfires and soil erosion. Charm Industrial's business model targets clients in the agricultural sector, charging them for the conversion of their agricultural residues into bio-oil and its subsequent storage underground. The goal is to provide a practical solution for reducing carbon footprints and promoting sustainability.

What believers are saying

  • The $100M Series B funding will enable Charm Industrial to scale its operations significantly, potentially leading to rapid growth and increased market share.
  • Charm Industrial's technology not only captures carbon but also improves soil health with biochar, offering additional value to agricultural clients.
  • The company's collaboration with Carbon Direct and EcoEngineers to develop MRV standards positions it as a leader in setting industry benchmarks for carbon removal.

What critics are saying

  • The nascent stage of the bio-oil sequestration market means there is still uncertainty around long-term adoption and regulatory support.
  • Scaling operations to a continent-wide fleet of pyrolyzers presents logistical and operational challenges that could strain resources and impact efficiency.

What makes Charm Industrial unique

  • Charm Industrial's unique bio-oil sequestration process offers a permanent carbon removal solution, unlike many competitors who focus on temporary carbon offsets.
  • The company's focus on converting agricultural residues into bio-oil not only addresses carbon capture but also mitigates wildfire risks and soil erosion, providing a multi-faceted environmental benefit.
  • Charm Industrial's recent $100M Series B funding round, led by General Catalyst, underscores strong investor confidence and provides significant capital for scaling operations.
