Requirements
  • Proven experience operating a laser cutting machine and other power and hand tools.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and read and understand blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Understanding of metals, plastics, composites, and other materials used in manufacturing.
  • Ability to set up and calibrate laser cutting machines and troubleshoot operational issues.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations related to laser operations.
  • Ability to lift and handle materials weighing more than 30 pounds frequently, including pushing, pulling, and lifting.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare the laser cutting machine for production by loading materials, setting cutting parameters, and verifying machine calibration accuracy.
  • Follow the production schedule allocated by the Pre-Fabrication Manager and/or Engineering Manager.
  • Perform daily machine startup and shutdown procedures.
  • Stage raw materials at the work center for the day's production.
  • Load and unload the machine with correct sheet sizes and label parts with correct part numbers.
  • Perform operator-level maintenance and cleaning of cutting equipment and the work area according to company standards and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Examine raw materials for defects or imperfections before initiating the cutting process.
  • Check parts to ensure they are within company-standard tolerances and report equipment deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Operate the laser cutting machine to cut and shape materials according to engineering drawings, blueprints, or job orders.
  • Inspect finished pieces to verify that they meet required specifications and take prompt action when deviations occur.
  • Perform routine maintenance on laser cutting equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn components.
  • Remove parts from sheets of metal and stack them onto pallets.
  • Take accurate measurements of workpieces and gauges for production.
  • Operate two or more machines with little or no assistance.
  • Change or replace switches and cylinders.
  • Follow safety guidelines and protocols while operating the laser machine and promote a safe working environment.
  • Monitor production, identify process-improvement opportunities, and suggest modifications to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Maintain detailed records of production activities, material usage, machine settings, and output quantities.
  • Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and quality-control personnel to achieve production goals and resolve technical issues.
  • Stay current with laser-cutting technologies and techniques and participate in training programs.

  • Additional technical education or certifications in computer numerical control machining.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and overtime when required.
