23andMe is seeking an experienced Director of Technical Program Management to lead the program management function for our Consumer business. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the successful execution of projects in two core areas: user-facing feature releases from our Consumer roadmap in areas such as Health, Ancestry, and Telehealth; and internal systems and processes operated by our CEI (Compute and Enterprise Infrastructure) group. You will be leading a team of technical and non-technical program managers with domain expertise across both of these core areas.
This is a highly cross-functional and collaborative role; you will directly support the Product, Engineering, Marketing, and CEI groups, but will also interface with other groups such as Legal, Privacy, Research, and Finance on a per-project basis. We’re looking for a leader who loves to bring structure and clarity to complex projects, drives success through clear communication and simple, well-defined processes, and consistently manages cross-team execution to land deliverables on time and within budget.

What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with leaders across the Product, Engineering, Marketing, and CEI teams to scope out high-level program management needs for each organization; work with your team to define and implement solutions.
- Manage and grow the consumer program management function, providing mentorship and career growth opportunities for team members.
- Manage portfolio-level communication of status, blockers, and resolution paths to stakeholder teams and Executive management.
- Drive alignment and adoption of organizational processes and tools, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
- Manage and guide a team of 10+ technical and non-technical program managers as they partner with stakeholders to:
- Gather business requirements and translate them into technical deliverables
- Build out end-to-end plans for program initiatives, with robust mapping of dependencies and deliverable dates
- Manage schedules, identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and resolve blockers
- Keep programs running smoothly through timely, efficient cross-team communication
- Conduct program reviews and regular check-ins on the health of the business
What You’ll Bring
- 10+ years of experience hiring, mentoring, and leading a team of program managers
- 3+ years of experience running a PMO at a consumer-facing technology company
- 15+ years of technical program management experience
- Proven track record at managing complex, cross-functional technical initiatives, and ensuring the program portfolio delivers results on time and within budget
- Proven track record of establishing processes and implementing project and portfolio management tools at an organizational level
- Extensive experience driving alignment on KPIs, goals, and regular business health reviews (e.g. QBRs)
- Deep experience in leading teams through change and transformation, and an ability to bring clarity to ambiguous and complex situations
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and an unwavering commitment to helping others be successful
- Ability to build relationships and effectively collaborate with all levels of the organization, from C-level to individual contributors
- Solid understanding of value drivers in business models similar to 23andMe
- Strong working knowledge of Smartsheet, JIRA, and Google Workspace
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field. PMP Certification is a plus but not required
- Ability to work 3 days onsite (Tuesday-Thursday) in our Sunnyvale, CA office

Pay Transparency
23andMe takes a market-based approach to pay, and amounts will vary depending on your geographic location. The salary range reflected here is for a candidate based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
