Prisma Health launches organ donor registration in MyChart.

Prisma Health launches organ donor registration in MyChart. * STAFF REPORT * Apr 2, 2026 Updated 6 hrs ago Prisma Health patients can now register as organ, eye and tissue donors through MyChart, the digital patient portal they already use to manage appointments, test results and medical records. According to Prisma Health officials, the new MyChart feature was developed in collaboration with Epic Systems and Donate Life America. Since launching in December, more than 800 patients have chosen to register as donors using the patient portal. "By integrating organ donor registration into the patient portal that patients already trust, MyChart and Donate Life America have removed barriers to saving lives," said Rebecca Smith, MD, MyChart physician lead. "Reducing the time from tragedy to identification as an organ donor will increase the likelihood of successful transplantation. I encourage all patients, even if they have signed up through the DMV already, to update their wishes today." Across the United States, more than 100,000 people are currently waiting for an organ transplant, including nearly 1,800 individuals in South Carolina. In South Carolina, most donor registrations occur at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Offering donor registration through MyChart aims to make the process faster and more accessible. When patients sign up through MyChart, their decision is securely recorded in the National Donate Life Registry. That registration follows them wherever they go, even if they move to another state, similar to how electronic medical records travel within Epic's health record system. The MyChart registration process allows patients to specify donation preferences, including donating for transplant only or for transplant, research and education. A patient's donor status is not visible to hospital care teams during treatment. "Organ donation is one of the most selfless gifts a family can give," said Dr. Todd Merchen, director of Solid Organ Transplant Center and Chief of Solid Organ Transplant Surgery at Prisma Health. "In moments of unimaginable loss, that decision can save lives and offer hope to others. Making it easier for people to register through MyChart helps ensure families clearly understand their loved one's wishes and gives patients the opportunity to create a powerful legacy of life." To register, patients can log into their MyChart account, go to the Menu and click the Health Summary. There, they will find the option to become an organ donor. Or use the search feature to locate the organ donor information. MyChart donor registration is for organ donation at the end of life. Patients who would like to learn more about living donation can speak with Prisma Health's living donor coordinators by calling 864-455-1770.

Prisma Health named to Fortune's list of America's Most Innovative Companies for the second year in a row.

Prisma Health named to Fortune's list of America's Most Innovative Companies for the second year in a row. Prisma Health Media Relations Thursday, March 26, 2026 South Carolina's largest healthcare system is the only one in the state to receive top ranking Greenville, S.C. - Prisma Health has been named to the Fortune list of America's Most Innovative Companies 2026. Prisma Health is one of only 22 health systems recognized in the nation and the only one in South Carolina. The list recognizes organizations that excel in developing innovative products, streamlining processes, and cultivating a forward-thinking corporate culture. This prestigious award is presented by Fortune and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider. The awards list was announced on March 25 and can currently be viewed on the Fortune website. Mark O'Halla, president and CEO of Prisma Health, said, "Earning this honor again highlights our commitment to innovation that truly makes a difference - for our patients and for the teams who care for them. As we constantly advance clinical care with emphasis on access and quality, our focus is making sure physicians, nurses, and team members have the resources they need to deliver world-class care in an increasingly complex healthcare environment." The America's Most Innovative Companies 2026 ranking is based on three core pillars: product innovation, process innovation and innovation culture. To assess innovation culture and internal perspectives on process innovation, Statista conducted online surveys allowing employees to evaluate their own organizations. External perspectives on process innovation and product innovation were gathered through surveys of industry experts, including recruiters, management consultants, and patent attorneys. To evaluate intellectual property portfolios, Statista partnered with LexisNexis(R) Intellectual Property Solutions, using its platform to analyze both the quantity and value of company patents. The 300 U.S. companies with the highest overall scores were included in the final ranking. The organization's leadership said being named to the list again is particularly gratifying, as the evaluation process incorporates feedback from other industry innovators and experts. Steve LeBlond, who joined Prisma Health in 2025 as chief information officer and digital officer, said, "This recognition reflects a strong culture of innovation across Prisma Health. The leadership team has shown remarkable, strategic vision in encouraging this in every capacity, from supply chain to the bedside. As I step into my role, I'm focused on partnering with our clinical, operational and IT teams to build on that foundation - advancing digital transformation, data and artificial intelligence, while strengthening cybersecurity to support our caregivers, safeguard patient information and enhance the overall patient experience." About Prisma Health.
