Summary:
University Advancement is seeking an Advancement Social Media Student Assistant to join the Advancement Communications team and support social media strategy and content development to connect alumni and friends with the university and advance philanthropic goals. The Advancement Social Media Student Assistant should be comfortable working in social media, photo/video, and web-based applications and bring creativity with strong writing and design skills. The role offers unique opportunities for creative portfolio building and published exposure.
Essential Functions:
Support the creation of effective, creative, original, on-brand digital materials for publication on the Advancement division’s AU Alumni Association social media channels.
Contribute tothe developmentof a robust social media calendar targeting American University’snearly 160,000 alumni with relevant content that highlights student achievements, faculty research, alumni accomplishments, campus beauty, and trendy social opportunities, where appropriate.
Assist with writing and publication of social media posts.
Capture photography and videography on campusto support Advancement Communications social media projects as directed.
Review and analyze social media data to help identify key performance insights and support the development and distribution of internal summaries and future content planning and approaches.
Assist with concept development, setup/strike-down, and post-production tasks, (including editing, exporting audio transcripts, music curation, and sorting video clips/B-Roll) during planned major video productions.
Update and maintain the internal departmental digital asset management system, including organizing, naming, and tagging video b-roll and photography.
Assist the AssistantDirector of Advancement Communications and Director of Advancement Communications with administrative tasks as needed.

Part-Time.
Student.
This position is hybrid and will require time each week in the office at 4401 Connecticut Avenue NW, Washington, DC.
Required Education and Experience:
Enrolled AU student.
Must be able to work 10-15 hours a week.
Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Mature judgment and professional demeanor.
Ability to manage separate projects and tasks while meeting assigned deadlines.
Good attention to detail.
Working familiarity with and/or willing to learn Adobe Creative Suite products.
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Experience writing and creating content for social mediaplatforms.
Photographyand/or video production and editing skills.
Preference will be given to applicants majoring in communications, journalism, graphic design, film, or marketing.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
We strongly encourage students with a Federal Work Study Award to apply.
Portfolio and class/work samples are preferred.
