Requirements
  • A current Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the state where services will be provided or a current multi-state Licensed Practical Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of the hire date.
  • A state criminal background check and, if applicable, a federal background check are required for regulated areas.
  • The employee must complete annual education related to specialty accreditation requirements when applicable.
  • The role requires the strength and stamina to lift, move, stoop, reach, position patients, and carry patients, materials, and equipment weighing 40 pounds or more daily.
  • The employee must be able to work protracted or irregular hours and must be available for weekends, holidays, and all shifts.
  • The employee must be able to work in environments involving biohazards, communicable diseases, possible radiological and chemical toxins, deceased persons, water exposure to the hands, and electrical hazards from patient-care equipment.
  • The employee must be skilled with computer systems used in physician offices and hospitals to capture data accurately and consistently.
Responsibilities
  • Provides nursing support to the physician and direct nursing care to patients in an inpatient setting.
  • Provides direct patient care according to the patient's plan of care or instructions from the overseeing role.
  • Performs designated therapeutic procedures for assigned patients as needed.
  • Observes, records, and reports patient concerns, symptoms, reactions, and progress to the overseeing role.
  • Assists physicians and the overseeing role with examinations and procedures.
  • Contributes to nursing assessments by collecting, reporting, and recording objective and subjective patient data.
  • Observes changes in patient condition, records signs and symptoms of deviations from normal health status, and reports findings.
  • Participates in developing patient care plans by providing data, contributing to priority identification, and assisting in identifying measures that maintain comfort and support human functions and responses.
  • Assists with patient and family education and rehabilitation by reviewing patient needs with the overseeing role and following the teaching plan.
  • Documents nursing interventions and responses to care and communicates them to appropriate healthcare team members.
  • Safely administers assigned intramuscular, subcutaneous, intravenous, oral, nebulized, and metered-dose-inhaler medications.
  • Obtains instruction and supervision from the overseeing role as necessary when implementing nursing techniques or practices.
  • Completes required specialty-accreditation education through computer-based learning, training, in-services, or competency validation when applicable.
