Requirements
  • A doctoral degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant postdoctoral work experience.
  • Internal candidates must have completed 3–5 years at the Assistant Staff Scientist level.
  • Expertise in human embryonic stem cell maintenance and differentiation.
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing, cloning of cytomegalovirus, molecular and cell biology techniques, and immunofluorescence.
  • Willingness to work with pathogens potentially dangerous to humans.
  • Willingness to work in Biosafety Level 2 and 3 facilities.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours.
  • Ability and willingness to work independently.
  • Ability to plan, manage, and execute the research needs of the project.
  • Ability to carry and lift 35 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for three continuous hours a day.
  • Ability to work on a computer for five continuous hours a day.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
Responsibilities
  • Support ongoing and future research pertaining to the biology of cytomegaloviruses using molecular biology, cell biology, and immunology techniques with rat, mouse, human, and monkey cells and viruses.
  • Oversee all human embryonic stem cell and hematopoietic progenitor cell experiments, including mentoring and training laboratory personnel in human embryonic stem cell culture and maintenance, hematopoietic differentiation, hematopoietic progenitor cell isolation and infection with human cytomegalovirus, and latency and reactivation assays.
  • Analyze hematopoietic progenitor cell experimental data using statistical applications and prepare manuscript-ready data tables and figures.
  • Train and mentor staff, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars.
  • Participate in writing grants and scientific manuscripts.
  • Contribute to the advancement of laboratory goals as assigned.
