Requirements
  • A high school GED is required.
  • Four to six years of secretarial and/or legal experience using accepted legal support and office organization practices is required.
  • The ability to express ideas clearly, effectively, and persuasively both orally and in writing is required.
  • The ability to compose, prepare, proofread, and type correspondence is required.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and court procedures is helpful.
  • A minimum typing speed of 55 to 60 corrected words per minute is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook and the ability to use provided computer technology to enhance the quality of work and programs are highly desired.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare legal documents relating to legal matters in compliance with court rules, including summonses, complaints, motions, notices, court forms, pleadings, and legal opinions.
  • Create and proofread legal documents, reports, and letters using legal software applications and following marginal notes and attorney instructions.
  • Input all data contained in legal files into the case management system, including correspondence, notices, legal documents, billing, and expenditures.
  • Correct and update case management system information and respond to inquiries.
  • Manage attorney calendars by scheduling and confirming appointments and court appearances.
  • Resolve calendar conflicts when necessary.
  • File correspondence and legal documents in compliance with law office standards.
  • Maintain and monitor a comprehensive diary system for litigated files to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Process all mail in compliance with law firm standards.
  • Maintain technical files and records, including comprehensive and detailed documentation.
  • Prepare reports and payment drafts.
  • Travel occasionally to off-site business meetings or conferences.
