Requirements
  • An undergraduate or bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a relevant field is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant healthcare management experience is required, including extensive knowledge of insurance eligibility and benefits, contracting, and financial counseling.
  • Knowledge of accounting, finance, business management, pre-admission, billing, collections, third-party payer regulations, and self-pay balances is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general computer applications is required.
  • Ability to develop policies, procedures, processes, and programs aimed at increasing upfront collections is required.
  • Ability to develop budgets, monitor expenditures, analyze data, interpret statistics, and create narrative, statistical, collection, and trend-analysis reports is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, collaboration, leadership, and relationship-building abilities are required.
Responsibilities
  • Manage and direct the resources and operational activities of the on-site Patient Access Financial Counseling team assisting patients with insurance benefits, self-pay responsibilities, collections, and payment plans.
  • Establish departmental goals and objectives and develop policies and procedures to accomplish them.
  • Communicate new and revised policies and procedures.
  • Set priorities and organize workflow to ensure smooth patient flow.
  • Review subordinate work and productivity reports to ensure timeliness and quality standards are met.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and participate in quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor Department Activity Reports and work queues before the date of service to determine whether patients have been properly verified and financially cleared.
  • Resolve operational, technical, and program-related work problems.
  • Serve as the primary Patient Access resource for insurance benefits, contracting, and financial counseling policies and procedures.
  • Hire, evaluate, counsel, and discipline assigned team members.
  • Provide on-the-job training, ensure team members are properly trained, identify training gaps, and develop plans to address them.
  • Manage ongoing training and communication of policy and procedure changes.
  • Assist with developing, implementing, and monitoring the annual operating budget while managing operations within established guidelines.
  • Perform other assigned Patient Access-related duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree is preferred.
