Requirements
  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current unrestricted or pending licensure in the state of Michigan.
  • Licensure as a Physician Assistant and a state Drug Enforcement Administration license to prescribe medications.
  • Current prescriptive authority and a collaborative agreement with oversight physicians.
  • Maintenance of all requirements for medical staff privileges.
  • Ability to utilize word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and other job-relevant software.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing, including use of the Situation-Background-Assessment-Recommendation technique.
Responsibilities
  • Practice five days per week in Kalamazoo at Bronson’s new facility and Bronson Methodist Hospital.
  • Provide hospital-employed inpatient and outpatient care Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • See patients in the outpatient setting and participate in inpatient work on a rotational basis, including rounding and admissions.
  • Perform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations.
  • Interpret laboratory, radiologic, electrocardiogram, and imaging tests.
  • Interpret and correlate subjective and objective patient data and formulate diagnoses.
  • Review patient findings under physician direction and develop treatment plans within the scope of practice.
  • Coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team to facilitate patient progress toward outcomes, including discharge or transfer of care.
  • Act as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team.
  • Identify common patient complications and use appropriate preventive measures.
  • Assist in developing and integrating quality measures and evidence into clinical practice.
  • Perform initial comprehensive assessments to determine whether patients require a higher intensity of service or transfer to a hospital setting.
  • Apply regulatory and third-party payer criteria in utilization review and management.
  • Facilitate timely discharge or transfer to the appropriate level of care.
  • Evaluate and appropriately manage patients.
  • Complete documentation supporting billing, medical care, orders, and progress notes.
  • Respond to nursing questions and evaluate patient status changes.
