Phillips Corporation is opening a $2 million industrial maintenance and mechatronics training centre in Portsmouth, Virginia this autumn. The facility, operated through the company's new Phillips Workforce division, aims to address skilled technician shortages in Hampton Roads' shipbuilding, defence and manufacturing sectors. The centre will offer accelerated, hands-on training on production-grade equipment, with approximately 80% of coursework conducted in practical settings. Core curriculum includes electrical control systems, programmable logic controllers, mechanical systems and robotics. Phillips Workforce developed from a partnership with Norfolk Naval Shipyard, where the company helped create mechatronics training to supplement existing apprenticeship programmes. The Portsmouth facility received a $25,000 grant from Portsmouth Economic Development. Training programmes are scheduled to begin in October 2026, with employer enrolment currently open.

The end goal is simple: catch defects sooner, waste less machine time and material, and get more usable parts through the same equipment." Phase3D develops in-situ inspection technology that detects defects in real time throughout the manufacturing process. By identifying problems as they occur rather than after a build is complete, Phase3D helps manufacturers avoid wasted material and machine time, increase throughput, and reduce the overall cost of manufacturing. Earlier this month the company announced the Department of the Air Force-supported extension of its Fringe Inspection platform into ceramic matrix composites (CMCs), thought to be 'increasingly central' to next-generation propulsion, hypersonic, and thermal-protection systems. Thursday 30 July 2026, 5:14:42 PM HANOVER, Md. - Phillips Corporation, Federal Division, announced the U.S. Navy has expanded its advanced manufacturing training capabilities at the Navy's Schoolhouse in Danville, Virginia, through the procurement of hybrid and additive manufacturing systems delivered in partnership with BlueForge Alliance, the Navy's procurement and program management partner. The investment includes 12 Phillips Hybrid Manufacturing Systems and 12 Markforged X7 composite additive manufacturing systems, providing sailors with hands-on experience across metal hybrid manufacturing, composite additive manufacturing, and production-ready workflows. The equipment will support Navy personnel participating in the Afloat Training Program and help develop the skilled advanced manufacturing workforce required to strengthen fleet readiness and sustainment capabilities. At the core of the deployment are 12 Phillips Hybrid built on Haas TM-1P CNC platforms and integrated with Meltio's Directed Energy Deposition (DED) technology. By combining precision CNC machining and metal additive manufacturing in a single platform, the systems enable sailors to manufacture new components, repair worn parts, restore high-value assets, and add material only where needed. This integrated approach provides greater speed and flexibility than traditional manufacturing methods alone while reducing material waste and shortening lead times. For Navy personnel, these capabilities provide hands-on experience with production-ready technologies designed to support fleet sustainment, depot maintenance, and expeditionary manufacturing operations. 12 Markforged X7 composite additive manufacturing systems provide advanced 3D printing capabilities, enabling sailors to rapidly produce durable composite parts, tooling, fixtures, prototypes, and replacement components.
