Requirements
  • Experience as a Material Artist
  • Substance Designer Expert
  • 4 years experience as a 3D Art Generalist or Environment Artist in professional AAA video games or cinematics, animation or VFX studios
  • Solid grasp of colour and other physical material properties as they relate to games
  • Proficient at creating realistic and PBR material using Substance Designer, Substance Painter and Photoshop
  • Expert knowledge in node-based material editors, tiling layered material, shader networks and procedural texturing
  • Knowledgeable in the key professional tools, techniques and asset creation pipelines: Maya, Zbrush, game engine (eg UE/Unity/proprietary), Marvelous Designer, modeling, baking, texturing, UV creation, unwrapping
Responsibilities
  • Set up and maintain our material pipeline in our real-time environment
  • Create physically-based materials/textures for use with props, environments, and characters
  • Assist in material library creation and maintaining material pipelines
  • Collaborate with other artists to build and integrate assets into a visually consistent and highly immersive world
  • Strong understanding of real-time shader material pipeline/setup
  • Strong understanding of Substance painter-creating smart materials/texture arrays for team to use for consistent art style and speed
  • Strong understanding of Substance designer or other related shader creation software that integrates well with real-time engines
  • Create a solid base material foundation library for enviro team
  • Create shaders and materials for team that are efficient in shader complexity and have correct parameters for team to adjust and work with (keeping our materials from not becoming bloated with too many parameters that can be confusing and expensive)
  • Shipped at least 2 or more AAA titles working on materials and material pipelines
  • Create high-quality materials using Substance Designer
  • Maintain a consistent aesthetic across your work
  • Collaborate across teams sharing ideas and articulating visions
  • Show initiative, push ideas and innovate within your duties
  • Be aware of project/task schedules and be capable of delivering work to deadlines
  • Take direction from the Art Director, Creative Director and engage with Producers
