We want someone passionate about resilient infrastructure and problem solving
The ideal candidate will provide consulting services to evaluate flood resilience of buildings and other infrastructure and design protective components. The candidate will contribute to multi-disciplinary teams of structural, geotechnical, and civil engineers working with SGH. The candidate will be expected to have a strong technical background and problem-solving mindset to deliver creative solutions.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Review national, state, and local regulatory requirements pertaining to flood hazards and flood-resistant design.
- Evaluate the risk of riverine, coastal, or stormwater flooding for buildings or other built structures.
- Identify flood mitigation strategies to protect proposed and existing buildings and other infrastructure assets.
- Collaborate with design teams including architects, other engineering disciplines, owners, developers, and property managers to determine effective and constructible solutions that enhance resiliency to flood hazards.
- Assist in the preparation of scope, schedules, and budgets for proposals.
- Develop flood loads.
- Perform structural and seepage calculations.
- Research and review flood mitigation products.
- Assist in preparing reports, presentations, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Perform construction administration and construction monitoring duties.
What You’ll Need:
- Master’s Degree in an Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Urban Planning, or related field.
- Communication skills: excellent written, oral and verbal communication skills. Ability to convey information to internal and external clients clearly.
- Problem-solving ability: capability to solve minor or complex problems using data, logic, and judgment. Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical skills.
- Team-oriented mindset – ability to work successfully with others toward a shared goal with active participation.
- Accountability and responsibility - ability to meet deadlines. Willingness take independent initiative to ensure tasks are completed.
- Enthusiasm, passion, and desire for continued learning of new ideas and concepts.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
- Willingness to travel to out-of-state project sites on occasion and ability to travel to remote job sites not accessible by public transportation.
- FE/EIT certification preferred.
- Familiarity with Some of the Following Software: General - AutoCAD, Civil3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, Revit. Civil - HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, Infoworks, MIKE. Structural – RISA, RAM, ETABS, SAP, SAFE. Geotechnical – Geoslope Suite, Slide, Plaxis, DeepEx.
