About the role
We are seeking a Senior Inspector with a NICET Level III certification and proven experience in watermain construction in Staten Island and Brooklyn. This full-time role involves on-site inspection of large-diameter water mains, appurtenances, and related utility work, ensuring all activities meet city standards, safety protocols, and project specifications.
What you'll do
- Conduct daily field inspections to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
- Verify installation of water mains, valves, hydrants, fittings, and service connections.
- Monitor trenching, backfilling, and restoration work.
- Oversee pressure testing, chlorination, flushing, and bacteriological sampling.
- Ensure proper coordination with utilities to avoid conflicts or infrastructure damage.
- Document all site activities in detailed daily inspection reports.
- Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and utility agencies.
- Enforce safety and environmental protection standards.
- Identify and report non-conformances, ensuring corrective action is taken.
Qualifications
- NICET Level III Certification in Civil Construction Inspection (preferably with a focus on watermain projects) or a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of field inspection experience on major utility or watermain construction projects.
- Completion of NYCDEP Water Main Training (must be documented).
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification (must be obtained prior to project start).
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, shop drawings, and as-built plans.
- Thorough understanding of NYCDEP, NYCDDC, and NYCDOT construction standards, guidelines, and procedures.
- Ability to produce clear, accurate, and timely inspection reports and quantity verifications.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- Prior experience on NYCDDC-managed watermain construction projects preferred.
- Familiarity with DEP shutdown procedures, chlorination/testing protocols, and related workflows preferred.
- Capability to mentor junior inspection staff or assist with field coordination preferred.
- Working knowledge of adjacent disciplines, including concrete placement, street restoration, paving, sewer installation, and combined utility inspections preferred.

The expected salary range for this role in the New York City Metropolitan Area is $65 - $70 per hour. The total compensation, including salary and bonuses, is determined by various factors such as experience, skill level, location, and qualifications, which are evaluated during the interview process
