Requirements
  • NICET Level III Certification in Civil Construction Inspection (preferably with a focus on watermain projects) or a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of field inspection experience on major utility or watermain construction projects
  • Completion of NYCDEP Water Main Training (must be documented)
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification (must be obtained prior to project start)
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, shop drawings, and as-built plans
  • Thorough understanding of NYCDEP, NYCDDC, and NYCDOT construction standards, guidelines, and procedures
  • Ability to produce clear, accurate, and timely inspection reports and quantity verifications
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills
Responsibilities
  • Conduct daily field inspections to ensure compliance with specifications and standards
  • Verify installation of water mains, valves, hydrants, fittings, and service connections
  • Monitor trenching, backfilling, and restoration work
  • Oversee pressure testing, chlorination, flushing, and bacteriological sampling
  • Ensure proper coordination with utilities to avoid conflicts or infrastructure damage
  • Document all site activities in detailed daily inspection reports
  • Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and utility agencies
  • Enforce safety and environmental protection standards
  • Identify and report non-conformances, ensuring corrective action is taken
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience on NYCDDC-managed watermain construction projects preferred
  • Familiarity with DEP shutdown procedures, chlorination/testing protocols, and related workflows preferred
  • Capability to mentor junior inspection staff or assist with field coordination preferred
  • Working knowledge of adjacent disciplines, including concrete placement, street restoration, paving, sewer installation, and combined utility inspections preferred
