Summary:
The Product Manager (PM) is a strategic leader within the product management team, responsible for driving the planning, execution, and performance analysis of product initiatives. This role includes full P&L ownership and requires developing high-level business strategies that align with corporate goals, focusing on financial performance, volume, profit, and market share. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership, data-driven decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration, with a solid understanding of the Prepared Foods industry and the company’s vertically integrated model.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning & Execution:
Lead the development and execution of business plans to achieve financial, volume, and market share objectives for assigned product categories. Regularly monitor category performance, using data to drive strategic decisions and ensure goals are met. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align strategies with corporate objectives and ensure effective execution. - Data-Driven Strategy:
Utilize internal and external data to identify market trends and growth opportunities. Leverage market insights to inform business strategies, providing actionable plans to drive key initiatives. Ensure decisions are backed by strong data analysis and market research. - Product & Packaging Innovation:
Manage end-to-end product and packaging development to meet Private Label retailer expectations. This includes ideation, R&D, feasibility validation, business proposals, and project execution. Oversee packaging development, ensuring product launches meet customer expectations. Work with cross-functional teams to align product specifications and packaging changes with retailer needs and operational capabilities. - Forecasting & Inventory Management:
Take ownership of the monthly volume forecast process, working with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate forecasts and timely product launches. Lead the development of strategies to optimize inventory management, mitigate supply chain risks, and ensure seamless business continuity. Proactively monitor inventory levels to address potential challenges and manage product availability. - Customer & Sales Collaboration:
Lead customer engagement initiatives, collaborating with sales and customer business teams to align product strategies with customer needs. Develop customer-specific business plans from concept development to product launch and in-market tracking. Serve as the primary point of contact for sales teams, ensuring effective communication of product strategies to external stakeholders. - Market & Competitive Intelligence:
Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and market share performance to inform long-term product strategies. Partner with Marketing Analytics to evaluate the impact of macro and micro-environmental factors on product performance and category trends. Provide actionable insights to keep the business ahead of industry changes and emerging trends. - Supply Chain & Operational Efficiency:
Drive continuous improvement in supply chain operations by identifying inefficiencies and leveraging network complexities to optimize costs. Work closely with logistics, procurement, and operations teams to ensure product availability, manage production costs, and mitigate risks in the supply chain. Understand how distribution channels and operational decisions impact cost structures, aligning them with broader business goals.
Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA strongly preferred, but NOT required
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in product management or a related field, with a proven track record of driving business growth and leading cross-functional teams.
Skills & Competencies:
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint), Power BI, and other business analysis tools.
- In-depth knowledge of syndicated data platforms (IRI/Nielsen) and PMDM/NPD is highly preferred.
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical capabilities, and a deep understanding of business drivers.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills with the ability to influence key stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven leadership skills and experience managing cross-functional teams to deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Supervisory:
Yes, with the ability to mentor and guide junior team members as well as lead cross-functional teams.
Travel:
Up to 15% travel required.
