Monitoring Engineer to oversee and manage the structural and geotechnical monitoring aspects of construction project. The role involves conducting real-time monitoring, data analysis, and reporting to ensure the stability, safety, and compliance of construction activities.
• Implementation of monitoring plans for structures, ground conditions factors during construction.
• Supervise the installation and maintenance monitoring instruments such as inclinometers, strain gauges, piezometers, etc.
• Identify potential risks related to ground settlement, structural deformations, and propose mitigation measures.
• Prepare monitoring reports, technical assessments, and data visualization dashboards for project stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety guidelines, and contractual requirements related to monitoring activities.
• Coordinate with geotechnical engineer lead, and structural engineers to interpret monitoring results and adjust project plans as needed.
• Support risk management and early warning systems, ensuring proactive measures to mitigate potential construction risks.
• Perform site inspections and audits to verify proper implementation of monitoring systems and adherence to monitoring protocols.
• Utilize software tools for data analysis, including GIS-based platforms, and real-time data processing applications.
• Ensure proper documentation and archiving of monitoring data for future reference and regulatory compliance.
Work Conditions:
• Office-based with frequent site visits to supervise the installation and the implementation of monitoring plan.
• Full-time, with potential for night shifts or weekend work depending on project requirements.
Required Skills and Competencies
• A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field is required.
• Engineer (P.Eng) designation is not required but is considered an asset.
• 5+ years of experience in monitoring engineering, preferably in infrastructure, tunneling, railway, metro, or large-scale construction projects.
• Alternative backgrounds acceptable if accompanied by strong field monitoring experience and P.Eng. eligibility.
• Hands-on experience with monitoring instrument installation and maintenance: inclinometers, strain gauges, piezometers, and equivalent geotechnical/structural instruments
• Proven experience interpreting monitoring data and translating results into engineering recommendations.
• Familiarity with local Ontario standards and international standards related to construction monitoring.
• Experience with risk management, early warning systems, and mitigation planning in a construction context.
• Track record of preparing technical monitoring reports, assessments, and data visualization outputs for project stakeholders.
• Implementation and management of structural and geotechnical monitoring plans.
• Data analysis and visualization — ability to build and present dashboards for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Real-time monitoring data processing and interpretation.
• Compliance with industry regulations, safety guidelines, and contractual monitoring requirements.
• Site inspection and audit capability — verify proper implementation of monitoring systems.
• Risk identification: ground settlement, structural deformations, and mitigation measure development.
• Technical documentation and data archiving for regulatory compliance.
• Proficiency in monitoring equipment and data analysis software, such as AutoCAD, GIS, Plaxis, Geoslope, or real-time monitoring platforms.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical reporting skills.
• Excellent communication and the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with different engineering disciplines.

This role offers an annual base salary in the anticipated range of $110,000–$140,000 CAD, with compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
