Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relay information to and obtain information from internal staff and external study staff, with demonstrated ability to supervise and manage laboratory staff.
  • Ability to think strategically and analytically and influence constructive change through collaboration and relationship building.
  • Ability to ensure appropriate infrastructure by interpreting complex clinical trial protocols and laboratory manuals to evaluate the clinical, physical, technological, and staff resources required to conduct each clinical trial according to study protocol, applicable policies, and regulations while ensuring participant safety.
  • Proven ability to work in a laboratory, with advanced technical expertise in complex specimen processing procedures and familiarity with Biosafety Level 2 laboratory standards.
  • Ability to travel to different laboratory locations.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to meet daily deadlines while handling multiple projects.
  • Ability to manage projects outside current areas of expertise and willingness to learn and adapt to an evolving environment.
  • Strong computer skills, including intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, OnCore and EPIC.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory environment governing the collection, storage, and shipment of human samples.
Responsibilities
  • Execute procedural, managerial, and policy decisions for the Clinical Research Support Laboratory.
  • Oversee the physical laboratory facilities and manage laboratory equipment and supply levels to ensure cost-effective, compliant, and efficient laboratory operations.
  • Develop and maintain Clinical Research Support Laboratory policies, procedures, and the quality control program.
  • Oversee daily laboratory operations, including implementation of standardized workflows.
  • Directly supervise Laboratory Supervisors and staff responsible for maintaining the inventory of kits and laboratory supplies.
  • Recruit, hire, support career development, conduct performance evaluations, communicate deadlines and special circumstances, administer disciplinary actions, and provide day-to-day supervision for direct-report employees.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing and resource levels for departmental functions.
  • Represent the Clinical Research Support Laboratory at relevant meetings.
  • Develop and coordinate continuing education and training for Clinical Research Support Laboratory staff.
  • Investigate complaints and collaborate with others to resolve issues arising within the unit.
  • Escalate important information to management to support department success.
  • Assist with strategic and long-range planning and budgeting processes.
  • Provide study-specific training at subject enrollment when required by the sponsor or when special training or a new laboratory function is needed.
  • Oversee Clinical Research Support Laboratory staff to ensure adherence to study protocols.
  • Interact with external sources to coordinate project work, stay informed about new products and technologies, and arrange for subcontractors.
  • Evaluate work requests to determine whether they are appropriate for the unit or another area.
  • Interact with University personnel to define work assignments and requirements, communicate work progress, and plan and coordinate projects.
  • Manage and maintain an inventory tracking system that streamlines distribution and operations and ensures accurate product inventory.
  • Maintain laboratory technology systems, equipment, and supplies for the unit.
  • Maintain equipment inventory and work with appropriate departments and vendors to arrange regular maintenance and service.
  • Maintain knowledge of the regulatory environment governing collection, storage, and shipment of human samples.
  • Sustain current best practices and participate in local and international professional organizations as appropriate.
  • Review and determine staffing needs, job posting requirements, salary guidelines, and labor agreement interpretations for exempt and non-exempt staff.
  • Manage administrative support needs for exempt and non-exempt staff and provide recommendations, improvements, solutions, and assistance as needed.
  • Manage and monitor technology needs, conduct inventory, and assess system requirements for assigned departments.
  • Develop and prepare budgets, financial forecasts, financial analyses, and actual-versus-budgeted performance reports for departments.
  • Manage the use of facilities, including office space, workstations, equipment, and office supplies.
  • Manage administrative support for departmental activities to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Manage and coordinate training sessions when new policies or practices are adopted.
  • Ensure compliance with University and federal regulations as they apply to assigned departments.
  • Identify, plan, and develop administrative policies for assigned departments.
  • Assist in reviewing and implementing University and departmental policies related to administrative functions.
  • Assess and make recommendations regarding staff development and staffing levels.
  • Monitor, develop, plan, and execute systematic research on user requirements through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and competitive analysis.
  • Manage a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in a health or research-related discipline.
  • Previous clinical trials experience or experience in an oncology setting.
  • Previous experience with supply chain management.
  • Previous laboratory operations experience.
  • Proven experience supervising staff.
