Requirements
  • Candidates must have a background in competitive swimming either as a coach or swimmer.
  • High degree of human relation skills: strong communication and relationship building skills with swimmers, parents, and coaches.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and manage information to program participants, community leaders, volunteers and staff of all ages.
  • 2-3 years of coaching experience with various ages.
  • Applicant must have excellent teaching skills with expert knowledge of training and stroke development.
  • Ability to establish, collaborate and maintain relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Exemplify YMCA ideals, leadership qualities and a professional image.
  • A high level of knowledge of computers, various technology and applications.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, problem solve and possess effective time management skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred (within 1st Year).
  • YMCA Swim Instructor Certification (within 1st 90 days).
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check, drug screen and motor vehicle record.
  • Within 30 days of hire, completion of Safety Training for Swim Coaches, Principles of YMCA Competitive Swimming, Team Unify Training, Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
Responsibilities
  • Promotion of the program through news releases, flyers, and handouts.
  • Able to manage all groups by developing a coordinated training and practice plan.
  • Ability to develop a coaching staff and evaluate performance and training needs for the staff.
  • Set and evaluate swim team members individual goals; provide individual and team feedback for improvement and recognition.
  • Responsible for developing the team roster, team registration, meet lineups, volunteer recruitment, and all other administrative aspects of running the team.
  • Communicates information on swim team meets; provides information on location, transportation, and other areas of logistics.
  • Coordinating and working closely with the Parent’s group to develop volunteers and advocates.
  • Active work with Community involvement and Fundraising for the YMCA as well at the team.
  • Maintains records of achievements, progress reports, skill development.
  • Attend League meetings as scheduled.
  • Represents the YMCA at meets, various community events, meetings.
  • Responsible for the safety of all participants at all times.
  • Maintain current knowledge of emergency procedures; report incident and accident events in complete and timely manner.
  • Promote the team philosophy and foster a positive and friendly practice environment for athletes in the water consistent with the YMCA Mission.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

The Atlanta Voice celebrates 60 years with a Midday Open House of impact & inspiration. The Atlanta Voice opened its doors to the community for a joyful Midday Open House, marking six decades of storytelling, advocacy, and community connection. The celebration was more than an anniversary - it was a vibrant reflection of the publication's mission to inform, uplift, and empower Metro Atlanta. Throughout the afternoon, guests enjoyed a lively drop-in experience that blended nostalgia with forward-thinking energy. From guided peeks into current initiatives to sneak previews of what's launching next, visitors got a firsthand look at how The Atlanta Voice continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. WAREhouse Studio buzzed with conversation as longtime supporters, community partners, and new friends mingled with The Atlanta Voice staff. Laughter and stories filled the air as attendees shared memories of the publication's impact and envisioned the next 60 years together. Light bites, sweet treats, and refreshing drinks kept the celebration flowing, with a special thank you to its incredible vendors - 360 Photo Booth Eventz, World Renowned Catering, Courtney's Creations of Atlanta, and Jailan Jagne - for adding flavor, fun, and flair to the day. "This milestone isn't just about where we've been - it's about where we're headed," said Publisher Janis Ware. "The Atlanta Voice has always been about amplifying the voices of our community, and that mission continues stronger than ever." The Atlanta Voice were deeply honored to welcome Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, who stopped by to share reflections and gratitude for The Atlanta Voice's legacy of truth-telling and community service.
