Requirements
  • Experience structuring and negotiating complex technology transactions
  • Strong technical background (e.g., a degree in computer science, electrical or computer engineering, semiconductor or other similar disciplines)
  • Good understanding of how technology drives the structure, value and risks in transactions

  • Proven ability to draft agreements from scratch

Responsibilities
  • Structure, draft and negotiate a variety of agreements, including manufacturing agreements, strategic sourcing and component supply agreements, patent and technology license agreements, and engineering development and collaboration agreements
  • Negotiate and draft contracts for the procurement of technology, goods and services for incorporation into Roku’s products and services
  • Lead the agreement-making process, develop and maintain relationships with external partners, and provide strategic and practical legal advice on relevant operational matters
  • Provide legal advice and counsel on various aspects of Roku’s supply chain practices
  • Support Roku’s devices teams on a wide range of legal issues, including contract interpretation, open source counseling, and intellectual property rights
  • Act as a subject matter expert on intellectual property issues in the context of technology transactions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with a wide variety of Roku business units and other legal teams
  • Support continuous improvement of forms, policies, and processes to help streamline, simplify, and automate relevant contracting processes
  • Keep up to date on the latest developments in applicable laws, regulations, and industry trends
Desired Qualifications
  • At least 7+ years of technology transactional legal experience at both a law firm and in a corporate legal department
  • Past experience supporting engineering, operations, or supply chain teams
  • Solid understanding of the different types of intellectual property and of related issues in agreements
  • Proven ability to identify, evaluate and provide risk-appropriate solutions to the business based on excellent legal and business judgment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to persuade, including the ability to effectively relay complex information in a clear and concise format
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and independently, prioritizing workflow, meeting deadlines and manage multi-faceted and cross-functional projects
  • Proven track record of learning quickly, taking initiative, working proactively, being resourceful, and taking on additional responsibility
  • Be a team player who can perform assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • Experience working in a cross-department, cross-functional role requiring good relationship building skills
  • Prior experience working with high-growth technology companies is strongly preferred
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical and computer engineering, semiconductor or other similar disciplines
  • A Juris Doctorate degree from a U.S. accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of California or Texas, depending on location of the position.
