Requirements
  • Must reside in the Western region of the United States within 25 miles of a major airport.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two or more years of experience in one of the following areas: Land Mobile Radio (LMR), radio frequency systems, radio communications, wired/wireless communication systems, information technology systems, military, Motorola products, or networking equipment.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States indefinitely; employer sponsorship is not available.
  • Must be a United States citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract.
  • Must be willing to obtain a Department of Defense Secret Clearance.
  • Must be willing to obtain a Department of Homeland Security Public Trust Clearance.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification or must be able to obtain it within the first year of employment.
  • Travel requirements: extensive travel up to 85% (and over 75% as stated).
  • Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules.
  • Successful completion of a more stringent fingerprint background check as required by Motorola Solutions customers for CJIS Security Policy compliance.
Responsibilities
  • Act as Lead System Field Engineer on projects or system upgrades, directing self and other assigned project field technicians and mentoring less experienced field technicians.
  • Post-sale implementation of voice and data communications systems.
  • Provide technical support on specialized telecommunications systems and public safety product applications for the Federal Department of Defense.
  • Perform system configuration, programming, optimization, testing, and documentation tasks.
  • Provide technical support of specialized systems and product applications, including advanced troubleshooting of software-driven electronics, provisioning of communication system infrastructure, and performance optimization of RF and broadband architecture including legacy analog, advanced digital Project 25, and data infrastructure.
  • Maintain, optimize, test, support and document complex mission critical communications systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with a focus on trend analysis and documentation of results.
  • Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.
  • Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered as part of system maintenance, upgrades or support issues.
  • Maintain total familiarity and continuous training in the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Team with Engineering, Project Management, and Sales personnel to effectively maintain, optimize and support advanced communication systems which meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Work with other Field Engineers, Technical Support, Product Groups, and/or others to characterize system defects during system implementation and, on occasion, during the maintenance phase.
  • Perform maintenance of server hardware/operating systems and software infrastructure and troubleshoot to resolve system/application related issues.
  • Solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Very strong knowledge of wired communications systems, such as local area networks and wide-area networks.
  • Proficient in computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance systems to include cabling, routers, switches, firewalls, and bridges.
  • Experience with RF interfaces and systems such as transmitters, receivers, and antenna networks.
  • Knowledge in standard telephony, dedicated data circuits, and packet switching techniques.
  • Strong self-management skills and 'people' skills to work closely with customers and subcontractor community, as well as Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Customer Service teams.
  • Experience with logging recording systems, RF interfaces, wired/wireless communications systems, and networking equipment.
  • Excellent communications skills and professional presentation.
  • Must demonstrate high-level system experience with Motorola Base Stations (GTR series, Desktop, etc.), Dispatch Consoles (MCC7500, MCC7500E), T1 Circuits and MPLS Circuits, Computer IP Networks and Configuration, and RF infrastructure technologies including Motorola SmartZone, SmartNet, console systems, ASTRO conventional, trunked equipment, and simulcast systems.
  • Excellent skills using communications test equipment including Communication System Analyzers, Ethernet Link test sets, T1 Test Sets, Transmission Impairment Measurement Set, Digital RF Power Meter, Motorola Conventional, SmartNet, MCC Console systems, Secure Operations and ASTRO A7.x - A20.x, Digital systems and installation procedures.

Motorola Solutions acquires Hyper to deploy AI agents for 911 call handling and emergency response

Motorola Solutions has acquired HyperYou, a conversational AI company that handles non-emergency calls for 911 centres, and plans to introduce new AI agents to accelerate emergency response. The acquisition expands Motorola's agentic AI capabilities across its Command Center portfolio and Assist platform. Hyper's technology addresses a critical staffing shortage, with many US public safety answering points operating at just 75% capacity whilst non-emergency calls represent over two-thirds of total volume. The AI can autonomously manage routine calls and recognise when situations escalate, redirecting to human operators when needed. Motorola also plans to roll out additional Assist Agents that will provide real-time language translation and guide call handlers through complex emergencies. The company emphasises human supervision remains central, with AI taking autonomous action only within pre-determined parameters. Transaction terms were not disclosed.

Motorola Solutions and T-Mobile have partnered to bring satellite connectivity to Motorola Solutions' APX NEXT smart radios for first responders.
