Role Summary
The Associate Fund Accountant is an entry-level role that participates in accounting operations of the company’s (29) private real estate investment funds (the “Funds”), including one registered under the Securities Exchange Act of 1940, and Private Managed Accounts (“PMA”), including the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports, supporting fund operations, tax compliance, and audits, and identifying opportunities to use technology to automate processes. The funds and PMA are part of the company’s Investment Product Development and Management organization. This role reports directly to the Fund Accounting Manager and will be pivotal to the growth of the company.
**This is a remote role but preferred locations are Austin, TX or Portland, OR.**
The Success You’ll Build
- Prepare periodic financial reports to investors and assist managers with management and Board reports
- Manage and reconcile Fund cash, including escrows, reserves, capital calls, and distributions
- Reconcile and manage the calculation of quarterly distributions to investors
- Maintain all private Fund general ledgers, account reconciliations, cashbook entries, and accruals
- Support the quarter-end close and audit requests
- Provide supporting schedules to third-party tax provider for Fund tax filing requirements such as Schedule K-1 and Form 1099 filings and REIT qualification tests
- Create quarterly reporting statements for the Fund investors
- Collaborate with other teams to identify, design, and implement process improvements
The Experiences and Competencies Necessary to Succeed
- Bachelor’s level degree in Accounting, Finance, Math, Economics, or similar field
- Demonstrated technical and operational accounting knowledge of investment fund accounting
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Desire and ability to take ownership of all accounting for multiple investment funds that are growing rapidly
- Passion for the application of technology to streamline processes
- Proficient in Google Sheets/Microsoft Excel
- Nimble and able to adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Motivated and able to work independently
