Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3 Years Related Experience
  • Strong understanding of Quebec MAPAQ regulations
  • Valid MAPAQ food safety certification
Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular in-person audits of food service operations to ensure compliance with MAPAQ standards and McGill's internal food safety protocols
  • Evaluate food handling, storage, preparation, and sanitation practices across all dining units
  • Document findings and recommendations using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Collaborate with chefs, food managers, and service staff to implement corrective actions and continuous improvement plans
  • Liaising with SHHS Facilities and McGill FMAS to ensure timely repairs and maintenance of food service equipment and infrastructure
  • Track and report on maintenance issues, affecting food safety or operational efficiency
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on food safety with the best practices and regulatory updates
  • Support operational planning and documentation for seasonal and cyclical staffing, maintenance schedules, and compliance reporting
  • Liaise with Human Resources and other departments on matters affecting food service operations
  • Lead the development and implementation of food safety audit frameworks and performance metrics aligned with institutional goals
  • Analyze audit data to identify systemic issues, trends, and opportunities for operational improvement
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for senior management, contributing to strategic planning and decision-making
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on food safety and regulatory compliance, advising leadership and cross-functional teams
  • Participate in cross-departmental initiatives to enhance service delivery, sustainability, and risk mitigation
  • Ensure alignment of food service operations with institutional policies, government regulations, and industry best practices
  • Contribute to the development and revision of internal policies and procedures related to food safety and infrastructure maintenance
  • Represent Food and Dining Services in institutional committees and working groups related to health, safety, and operational excellence
Desired Qualifications
  • Degree in Culinary Arts, Food Safety, Hospitality Management or related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent communication, bilingual, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with unionized staff
  • Demonstrated ability to assess complex operational challenges and propose data-driven solutions
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives or teams in a unionized environment
  • Travel between multiple dining locations, as well as between the Downtown and Macdonald campuses
  • Evening or weekend work required during audits, maintenance coordination, and special events
