Responsibilities
  • Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the assigned academic subject area to support intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
  • Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that address students' learning styles and needs.
  • Assess student learning styles and use the results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students according to Individual Education Plans.
  • Work with staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching and learning process.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned extracurricular activities and sponsor activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manage student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain open communication through conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Present information accurately and clearly using effective communication skills.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file required physical and computerized reports, records, and documents.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
