Marriott International runs a global network of hotels and lodging facilities to serve business travelers, vacationers, and long-term guests. It earns money from owning, leasing, managing, and franchising properties, charging guests for room stays and extra services like food and beverages, events, and amenities, plus management and franchise fees from operated or branded hotels. Compared with competitors, Marriott relies on a diversified mix of ownership models and revenue streams across many regions, backed by a large brand and reservation network. Its goal is to provide reliable lodging worldwide while maintaining safety standards and expanding its footprint through owned, leased, managed, and franchised properties.

The company entered into the underwriting agreement on 11 August 2026 and issued the notes on 13 August 2026. New Marriott Autograph hotel breaks ground in Charlotte's South End. Key Takeaway: White Lodging's new 295-room Autograph Collection hotel adds another major investment to Charlotte's South End. For homeowners and buyers, the project matters less as a direct housing catalyst and more as another sign that South End is evolving into a mature, mixed-use district with hospitality, dining, offices, apartments and entertainment. White Lodging has broken ground on a 14-story, 295-room hotel at South Tryon and Bland streets. The property will join Marriott's Autograph Collection and is expected to open in late 2028. What's coming to South Tryon Street? The hotel is being built on roughly 0.6 acres at 1320 S. Tryon St., near the Bland Street light rail station and The RailYard. Plans include nearly 10,000 square feet of meeting space, a ground-floor restaurant and a fifth-floor open-air pool deck with wellness amenities. White Lodging also operates the JW Marriott in Uptown Charlotte. Charlotte Center City Partners has tracked the site as part of the broader development pipeline along South Tryon Street. Why a hotel matters to South End real estate. A hotel groundbreaking does not affect Charlotte home values in the same direct way that a major employer relocation or thousands of new jobs might. The more useful signal is what the investment says about South End itself. South End has spent years adding apartments, office towers, restaurants and entertainment destinations along the LYNX Blue Line. Full-service hotel development has been comparatively limited. A 295-room upscale hotel suggests developers now see enough business travel, dining, events and visitor demand to support another layer of the neighborhood's growth. That continued diversification can reinforce the qualities that already attract buyers to South End and nearby areas such as Dilworth, Wilmore and Sedgefield: walkability, proximity to Uptown, light rail access and a growing concentration of places to work and spend time. What buyers and sellers should watch. For nearby homeowners, the hotel itself is unlikely to be a reason to make a real estate decision. The bigger story is the continued buildout of the South Tryon corridor. Buyers considering Charlotte real estate should pay attention to how new projects affect walkability, traffic, retail options and the character of individual blocks. Sellers should understand that proximity to South End's amenities can be an important part of positioning a property, particularly in surrounding neighborhoods where buyers can access the district without necessarily living in its most urban core. Questions buyers ask. Where will the new Marriott Autograph Collection hotel be located? The hotel is under construction at South Tryon and Bland streets in Charlotte's South End, close to the Bland Street LYNX station and within walking distance of Uptown-facing portions of the neighborhood. When is the South End hotel expected to open? The current target is late 2028. As with any large construction project, the schedule can change as work progresses. Will the hotel increase nearby home values? No single hotel project guarantees higher property values. It is better viewed as one piece of South End's broader transition into a denser mixed-use district, alongside transit, restaurants, offices, apartments and other major developments. Hiranandani Sands Alibaug debuts branded serviced apartments under the Fern-Marriott collaboration. August 13, 2026 Hiranandani Communities has announced a landmark collaboration with The Fern Hotels & Resorts, under the Series by Marriott collaboration, to introduce branded serviced apartments at Hiranandani Sands, its integrated coastal township in Nagaon, Alibaug. Bringing together three trusted names, Hiranandani Communities, The Fern Hotels & Resorts, and Marriott International, the partnership marks a significant step towards integrating premium residential ownership with globally benchmarked, professionally managed hospitality experiences within a single integrated township. Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani and Mr. Suhail Puri during the signing ceremony for the collaboration between Hiranandani Communities and The Fern Hotels & Resorts, a Series by Marriott, in Mumbai The collaboration reflects a broader shift already underway in Indian real estate, one where value is increasingly defined not by space alone, but by the standard of living, service, and experience a home delivers. For Alibaug, long known as a weekend escape from Mumbai, the partnership signals a deliberate reimagining: from a seasonal getaway to a year-round lifestyle destination, backed by international hospitality standards and evolving connectivity and infrastructure. For homeowners, the offering goes beyond traditional real estate ownership. Residences are professionally managed under the Fern-Marriott partnership on a "lock-and-leave" model, an asset-light approach in which units can be rented out through the management company when not in personal use, subject to the applicable management and operating terms. Speaking on the collaboration, Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani, Chairman, Hiranandani Communities, said, "India's homebuyer has evolved. They are no longer just purchasing four walls, they are investing in a way of living, a standard of service, and a lifestyle experience. This collaboration with The Fern Hotels & Resorts and Marriott brings exactly that to Alibaug, globally benchmarked hospitality, integrated seamlessly into a home you own. We've always believed real estate should serve the life being lived within it, not just the structure itself. Alibaug is already an established tourism and hospitality destination; with improving connectivity and infrastructure, it is now evolving into a year-round lifestyle and real estate destination, creating a natural bridge between leisure, hospitality and long-term living. This partnership is our commitment to being part of that evolution - for our residents, for guests, and for the local community that will grow alongside it." Mr. Kiran Andicot, Senior Vice President, South Asia, Marriott International, also joined the occasion virtually, marking Marriott International's participation in the collaboration. Designed as a hospitality-led residential ecosystem, the offering at Hiranandani Sands is built to reduce the traditional dependence on weekend tourism in Alibaug, with the potential to attract long-stay guests, digital nomads and international travellers throughout the year. This shift aims to support more consistent hospitality-led economic activity in the region, rather than the seasonal peaks and troughs that have historically characterised coastal tourism markets in Maharashtra. Beyond individual ownership, the development is designed with a broader community and sustainability mandate - supporting local artisans and craftsmanship, showcasing coastal cuisine and cultural traditions, and encouraging engagement with nearby heritage sites and natural reserves. Sustainability remains integral to the development philosophy, with initiatives focused on green-certified design, renewable energy adoption, water conservation, biodiversity preservation and responsible coastal development. With this collaboration, Hiranandani Communities reinforces a positioning it has held for decades - not merely as a real estate developer, but as an enabler of how India lives, experiences and engages with places. The partnership sets a precedent for integrating global hospitality standards into Indian townships without compromising community impact or environmental responsibility. About Hiranandani Communities South Asians & Diaspora It is one of India's most respected real estate development companies, known for pioneering integrated township developments across residential, commercial, retail, hospitality, education and healthcare. With over four decades of experience, the company has developed more than 34 million sq. ft. of residential space and 14.74 million sq. ft. of commercial space, with landmark developments in Powai (Mumbai), Thane, Panvel, and Chennai. The Group has consistently set benchmarks in urban planning, sustainable design and community-centric development for over four decades. About Hiranandani Sands, Alibaug Spread across 225 acres at Nagaon, Alibaug, Hiranandani Sands is a hospitality-centric coastal township initiative by Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani, offering an integrated ecosystem of premium residences, branded hospitality and lifestyle amenities designed for coastal living. Envisioned as a year-round coastal lifestyle destination, Hiranandani Sands integrates residential living, hospitality, wellness, leisure and community experiences within a thoughtfully planned ecosystem.
Delta passenger spoofs Wi-Fi in the Air (pro tip: don't do this). Of all the places to be skeptical of a strange Wi-Fi network, the inside of a plane in flight should be high on the list, especially during the week of Black Hat and DEF CON. August 12, 2026 What happens on the flight back from Vegas definitely doesn't stay in Vegas, and an attendee of the cybersecurity conferences held there last week is now on a glide path to learning that the hard way. Not long after Delta Air Lines flight 591 departed Las Vegas for Atlanta on Monday, a member of its flight crew sent a message to the airline reporting a Wi-Fi problem. As logged by Airframes, a data-sharing site for transportation enthusiasts, it read: "HEY ALERT CORP SECURITY WE HAVE A PAX ON THAT HAS CREATED A SCAM WIFI CALLED DELTA WIFI FAST WE BELIEVE THEY ARE TRYING TO SCAM THE OTH PAX." The all-caps doesn't mean the pilot was shouting. ACARS (short for Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System), a messaging system that Delta and other airlines use, dates to the 1970s. Unlike other legacy services employed at places like the Navy or the National Weather Service, it's yet to be updated to support mixed-case content. You May Also Like Keep Watching The Disturbing Truth About Unsecured Cameras ACARS also transmits everything in the clear, so people could see the next messages sent from that Boeing 757, typos and all: ("LAS" is the airport code for Harry Reid International Airport in Vegas, "pax" is shorthand for "passengers," and "FA" for "flight attendant.") Delta spokesperson Morgan Durrant sent a statement from the Atlanta-based carrier Tuesday reiterating that no actual hack happened: "Safety of flight was never in question and no aircraft operating systems were affected. We are fully investigating to gather a complete set of facts, which will take time. We will partner with federal law enforcement and aviation regulators to ensure the incident is thoroughly investigated. We thank our crew for their professionalism and our customers for their understanding." Durrant added that the rogue Wi-Fi network was only active briefly, while the crew shut off the real Wi-Fi service for about half an hour. Creating a fake Wi-Fi network can be easy enough with a specialized router called a Wi-Fi Pineapple, but it is not smart to do. Especially not on a plane. The attendee or attendees of Black Hat or DEF CON-with smaller side events, they're collectively known as "hacker summer camp"-are in for a lot of trouble should Delta and police investigators identify them. As The Register noted, in 2015 the FCC posted a reminder that intentionally interfering with Wi-Fi networks is a crime. A year earlier, the commission fined Marriott $600,000 for one resort's practice of jamming signals from customers' mobile hotspots. Delta, in turn, would be well within its rights to put the perpetrators on its own no-fly list. Delta passengers should bear in mind that the only network they should connect to onboard, as documented by the airline, is DeltaWiFi.com. That's free to use with a membership in Delta's free SkyMiles frequent-traveler program and has been so since 2023. While Delta's inflight bandwidth comes at no charge, it's nowhere near as fast as the Starlink Wi-Fi now offered by such Delta competitors as Alaska Airlines and United Airlines. Last year Delta announced plans to switch to Amazon Leo, provided by satellites in low Earth orbits like those of SpaceX's service. But after setbacks for Leo that include an on-pad explosion of the biggest rocket booked to launch its satellites, Delta passengers will have to wait longer than the airline's initial goal of 2028 to see half of its planes upgraded.
