POSITION DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Supervises water system operators and water treatment plant operators in the maintenance and operation of water treatment facilities and distribution systems to ensure appropriate water supply, quality, and pressure, and to maintain the integrity of the water system.

Position Specific Summary
The Water Treatment Supervisor position at the City of Tucson’s Water Department schedules and supervises the daily tasks of division personnel in the maintenance and operation of water treatment equipment to ensure safe delivery of potable and reclaimed water to Tucson Water’s customers.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Water Operations Superintendent. This position exercises supervision over division personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities
Schedules and manages shifts for division personnel to provide full coverage for Tucson Water’s distribution systems. Utilizes the enterprise asset management system to administer daily work assignments to staff and analyzes workflow data to track productivity.
Approves bi-weekly payroll and reviews leave requests for personnel. Performs annual evaluations for staff to evaluate their performance and identifying areas for improvement as needed.
Manages, orders and maintains the proper stock of chemical feed pumps, equipment, and materials required to ensure that testing and treatment operations run continuously.
Manages, orders and maintains the proper bulk storage volume of sodium hypochlorite at all water treatment facilities. Ensures that all chemicals are stored and labeled in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
Drives to various sites and facilities to perform randomized inspections and evaluates the work of division personnel. Ensures that staff comply with Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) standards. Ensures that work sites comply with OSHA standards.
Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions
This position requires work in various climate and working conditions and includes Indoor and outdoor work with heavy exposure to extreme physical, ergonomic, or emotional hazards.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate degree
Work Experience:
Four (4) years of directly related experience
License:
Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License - Arizona Department of Transportation - Motor Vehicle Division
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Full Hourly Range: $29.23 - 50.43 USD

Must obtain a Class (C) CDL with Tanker and Hazmat Endorsements within twelve (12) months of hire.
OSHA HAZWOPER Certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
Must obtain an Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Water Distribution Grade 3 and Water Treatment Grade 3 certification within twelve (12) months of hire.

The cover letter must include responses to the following questions:
1. If you possess an ADEQ certification or equivalent state water certification in distribution or treatment, please include the level (numerical or alpha) and type of certifications you possess. List the certifying agency and your operator number or ID.
2. Please describe your experience in water treatment, wastewater treatment, or distribution systems operations or maintenance.
3. Describe your experience working with Sodium Hypochlorite, Hydrogen Peroxide, or disinfection chemicals.
4. Describe your supervisory experience. Include the number of employees supervised and the nature of the work performed.
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications for the position will be invited to sit for written/practical exams. Those who pass the assessments will be invited to a panel interview.
Assessments are being held in person on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
Panel Interviews will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 and Thursday, January 9, 2025.
