Requirements
  • Completion of all unit-specific competencies and requirements required to care for critically ill patients during orientation and annually as assigned.
  • Current New Hampshire registered nurse license.
  • An Associate of Science in Nursing degree is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is preferred for critical care registered nurse roles and required before completion of orientation.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is preferred, with role-specific requirements before orientation completion or assuming care for critically ill pediatric patients.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course certification is preferred and required within 18 months of hire for the Emergency Department.
  • Trauma Certified Advanced Resuscitation certification is preferred and required within one year of hire for the Intensive Care Unit and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute training is preferred or must be obtained within the specified onboarding period.
  • Membership in a professional organization is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Render professional nursing care to patients within an assigned hospital unit in support of medical care and hospital objectives and policies.
  • Complete comprehensive clinical documentation and care plans in the electronic health record, including vital signs, assessments, care plans, and changes in condition.
  • Respond promptly to patient monitoring alarms and emergency situations such as Code Blue and rapid response events.
  • Collect, label, and send ordered specimens to the laboratory according to policy.
  • Analyze patient assessments and data, communicate findings, document care, and implement actions accurately and promptly.
  • Communicate patient information through handoffs, walking rounds, and interaction with physicians and other providers.
  • Collaborate with providers to complete assessments and perform bedside procedures.
  • Complete hourly rounding with Licensed Nursing Assistants on assigned patients.
  • Identify and help correct patient-care safety issues and implement patient-safety initiatives.
  • Appropriately delegate aspects of patient care and unit activities to other nursing personnel.
  • Participate in unit and organizational committees, councils, shared governance, peer review, DNV survey readiness, and the annual 360 evaluation process as requested.
  • Provide support and mentorship to new nurses and other departmental disciplines through preceptorship and other methods requested by department leadership.
  • Follow established procedures, protocols, HIPAA compliance policies, and the chain of command to maintain safe care and address issues.
  • Maintain current practice knowledge, including American Nurses Association standards, the New Hampshire Nurse Practice Act, specialty standards, and Nurse Sensitive Indicators.
  • Manage timekeeping, patient-supply utilization, overtime authorization, and earned time off according to policy.
  • For Emergency Department assignments, triage and reassess patients, determine Emergency Severity Index priority, implement protocol orders, perform focused assessments, recognize life-threatening conditions, complete boarding documentation, and improve patient throughput.
  • For Cardiac Catheterization and Angiography Lab assignments, administer and titrate critical-care medication infusions, conduct pre-procedure history and medication reviews, maintain a sterile field, prepare equipment and supplies, administer and document procedural sedation, support emergency cardiac interventions, remove arterial and venous sheaths, assist with intra-aortic balloon pump and Impella equipment, assist with Flow wire, Opsens, and intravascular ultrasound procedures, and interpret hemodynamic waveforms.
  • Participate in required call assignments and remain within a 30-minute radius while on call.
Desired Qualifications
  • Graduation from an approved nursing program.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
  • Basic Dysrhythmia certification.
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale certification.
  • Certification in the relevant specialty.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute training, including advanced training for Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit roles.
  • Three to five years of critical-care experience for Cardiac Catheterization and Angiography Lab assignments.
  • Membership in a professional organization.
