Requirements
  • A minimum two-year technical degree or certification and at least three years of hands-on experience in a fast-paced, high-tech electronics, optics laboratory, data center, or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and facility maintenance.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
  • Ability to work independently, in a team setting, and cross-functionally with various organizations.
  • Detail orientation and fine motor skills.
  • Experience using hand tools and performing small facilities, manufacturing, and laboratory repairs.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow blueprints, technical specifications, and operating procedures.
  • Ability to perform moderately strenuous physical and repetitive work, including bending, stooping, kneeling, carrying tools, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working overhead.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis.
  • Proficiency in Google Sheets and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a key point of contact between laboratory teams and facilities, respond to building and project-related issues, and maintain customer service-oriented relationships throughout the facility.
  • Perform general maintenance and upkeep of laboratory spaces, including equipment moves and installations.
  • Assist with inspections and maintenance of HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, lighting, and other building systems; make repairs and coordinate with external vendors as needed.
  • Follow preventive maintenance schedules for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Operate and monitor building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, to ensure proper function.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, codes, and company policies, and maintain records for inspections, repairs, and audits.
  • Perform general upkeep tasks such as cosmetic work, painting, and floor repairs to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Perform Environmental, Health, and Safety tasks, including hazardous-material removal coordinated with contractors.
  • Assist with physical security projects and procedures.
  • Coordinate and assist with equipment moves.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory, work with facilities coordinators to maintain par levels for laboratory supplies, and monitor the calibration program by sending equipment for calibration when necessary.
  • Work with external vendors or contractors on specialized projects, repairs, or maintenance when needed.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders regarding scheduled and service interruptions.
  • Create, address, and follow protocols and standard operating procedures for facilities emergencies such as power outages, water leaks, and broken equipment to minimize business disruption.
  • Provide on-call coverage after hours and on weekends for facility emergencies.
  • Perform other assigned duties in support of business needs.

Pentagon awards IonQ $58M contract to produce shoebox-sized quantum clocks

IonQ has secured a $28 million contract modification from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop optical atomic clocks, with an option for an additional $30 million. The Maryland-based quantum technology company will produce 25 Evergreen-05 optical atomic clocks initially, with the potential for 100 more units if the option is exercised.
