Requirements
  • Graduate from an ARRT-recognized education program, or be ARRT or ARMRIT registered, or ARRT or ARMRIT registry eligible.
  • Obtain advanced MRI registry within one year of hire.
  • Obtain current Basic Life Support certification within three months of hire.
  • Demonstrate competency in venipuncture for patients requiring contrast administration during MRI studies.
  • Demonstrate competency with the RIS/HIS modules appropriate to the job responsibilities.
  • Be able to push, pull, and lift patients up to 400 pounds with assistance; lift and move objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Not have metal implants or a pacemaker that would contraindicate working around the MRI magnet.
Responsibilities
  • Perform MRI examinations on patients based on department procedures and under the direction of the department section chief and manager.
  • Ensure technical continuity of care for patients receiving MRI studies.
  • Communicate clinical observations made during MRI examinations to radiologists and present the recorded clinical history to the radiologist.
  • Assist in gathering and recording data and serve as a committee member for the Radiology Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement program.
  • Follow downtime procedures accurately to ensure appropriate information is available for continuity of patient care.
  • Maintain professional development through active participation in in-service and continuing education programs.
  • Provide patients with educational information regarding their examination.
  • Ensure the quality of digital images sent to PACS; verify the correct patient is selected from the worklist and the accuracy of medical record information before transmission.
  • Review the patient safety checklist before the study.
  • Support department patient-experience goals by providing patient education and distributing personalized business cards; send or provide apology cards when patient expectations are not met.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of experience as a staff technologist.
  • One year of experience as an MRI technologist.
